Blumenfield, "How Should We Teach Our Children to Write? Cursive First, Print Later!" The British Dyslexia association recommend that children learn the continuous cursive style. The cursive style has some significant advantages for Dyslexic students. The key advantages to this system are: * By making each letter in one movement, children’s hands develop a ‘physical memory’ of it, making it easier to produce the correct shape; * Because letters and words flow from left to right, children are less likely to reverse letters which are typically difficult (like b/d or p/q); * There is a clearer distinction between capital letters and lower case; * The continuous flow of writing ultimately improves speed and spelling.

"-Rosaivg. - "Omg, this video was shown to me when I was in second grade: 0 Now I'm in high school ..." - Megumi. Did you know: Scientists are discovering that learning to cursive is a crucial tool for cognitive development, particularly for training the brain in terms of "brain area specialization," that is, optimal performance. By learning to write in cursive, the brain develops area specialization that integrates sensation, movement control, and reasoning. Unlike keyboard typing and visual practice, according to brain scan studies, various areas of the brain are co-activated during learning to write in cursive. There is an external benefit to the reasoning skill used in reading and writing. Writing in legible cursive requires a certain level of fine motor control over the fingers. Children need to pay attention and think about what they are doing and how they are doing it. They have to practice. Brain CT studies reveal that italics activate areas of the brain that are not involved when typing.
