Solspot

Solspot measures how much light a spot in your home actually gets — then tells you which plants will live there. Lay your phone flat where the plant will sit, screen toward the light. Solspot reads your camera's light meter and gives you an honest answer: a category, a number, and the real range around it. MEASURE THE SPOT, NEVER THE PLANT Light is a property of a place, not a leaf. Solspot measures the light arriving where a plant would sit, the same way a leaf receives it. AN HONEST ANSWER, NOT FAKE PRECISION Every reading comes with the range it could really be. When your device hasn't been calibrated, the range widens and Solspot says so. If a spot is brighter than the camera can measure, Solspot tells you that instead of inventing a number. PLANTS THAT WILL ACTUALLY LIVE THERE Matched against your measured light — with the caveats included. A plant that will survive but sulk is shown as exactly that, not hidden behind a percentage. CARE THAT STARTS FROM THE LIGHT Add the plants you own and Solspot works out how often to check each one — from the light it measured where the plant stands, the pot it is in and the season, not from a calendar. It asks you to check the soil rather than telling you to water, learns from what you find, and sends one reminder a day that names every plant due. Your care history and notes stay on your phone, and you can export all of it. The daily reminder is part of Solspot Pro for anyone who installs from version 1.7. SEE IT IN YOUR ROOM Stand a plant on your own floor at the size its species actually reaches, across its published size range. 22 of the 200 species have a 3D model. Part of Solspot Pro for anyone who installs from version 1.7. PET SAFETY, SOURCED NOT GUESSED Pet toxicity comes from the ASPCA's lists and nowhere else. When ASPCA doesn't list a species, Solspot says "unverified" rather than guessing. "We don't know" is never presented as "safe". SAVED SPOTS AND SEASONAL RE-CHECKS Save a windowsill and watch its light change through the year. Light in January is not light in July, and Solspot reminds you to re-check. FULLY OFFLINE No account and no server. Your plants, spots and photos stay on your phone. While measuring, the camera is a light sensor and no image is captured at all. In "See it in your room" and the sun's path it is a viewfinder, and the only picture that exists is one you take yourself — saved to your own Photos, and going nowhere else unless you share it. If you let Solspot use your location for the sun, it is rounded to about 10 km and stays on your phone. FREE, WITH AN OPTIONAL ONE-TIME PRO Every light reading including direct sunlight, the category and its honest range, plant matches with their caveats, every filter, buy links, the Learn stories, unlimited saved spots, care for every plant you own and a full export of your data: free. Nothing you can use today will ever be locked. Solspot Pro is one purchase, never a subscription, and adds: • This spot through the year: when sun reaches the window and how the light changes month by month with your local weather, with the sun's path drawn over the view • Compare spots: which of your spots gets the most light • Grow-light planner: how close to hang a white lamp, checked with the camera, and how long to run it • What's wrong with my plant? Likely causes from what you see, pests and false alarms included • Light through the day: morning, midday and evening readings show how a spot's light moves • See it in 3D: turn a plant around before you buy one • Photo journal, with then and now side by side • Growth time-lapse: a plant's photos as a short video • Repot dates, and rhythms for turning, cleaning leaves, pest checks and pruning • Alternate app icons • The daily care reminder and "See it in your room", which stay free for everyone who installed Solspot before version 1.7 No ads, ever.

Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Color Scouter at none against Solspot's 1. Color Scouter also leads on iOS requirement (15.6 vs 18.0). Solspot's advantage is update cadence (every 8 days vs every 27 months). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.
