Verdict
The clearest difference is ads: Happy Pudding Flap at none against Pineapple Pen's shown. Happy Pudding Flap also leads on rating (4.6 vs 4.3) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 12.4). Pineapple Pen's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs every 6 months) and ratings volume (6K vs 12). On price, review sentiment, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Happy Pudding Flap sells 4 one-off in-app purchases and Pineapple Pen sells 3 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Happy Pudding Flap holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Pineapple Pen has 6K ratings behind it against 12, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 64% of Happy Pudding Flap's written reviews are positive against 71% of Pineapple Pen's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Happy Pudding Flap ships an update every 6 months, Pineapple Pen fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 26, 2026 respectively.
