rrarrow is the experimental noise machine / modular audio effect for the iOS featuring extended feedback capabilities. Key features: - Simplicity. The interface is simplified for faster assembly and more flexible connectivity — you can assemble your effect very fast and control all the processing parameters with the audio signal! - Feedback capabilities. You can add feedbacks to the audio chain to get some chaotic noise sounds . - 20 blocks for audio processing: - Sine generator. Basic oscillator with sine waveform - Saw and square oscillators - Signal multiplier - Delay - Frequency shifter - Envelope follower - “Lorenz attractor” - Quantizer - Sample-and-hold - Reverb - Special Lowpass filter - Clipper - Nonlinear shaper (for self-oscillating circuit) - two special waveshaping modules with “fold” and “wrap” distortion blocks that work with audiofiles: - lookup table. Loads up to 10 seconds of audiofile to be used as nonlinear transfer function - Players with/without interpolation and speed control - "scrub" block for semi-random granular file playback - Built-in audio recorder. Share the audio file to other applications or AudioShare. - MIDI support! Assign MIDI controllers to all faders. Supports network midi and has a virtual MIDI in. - Audiobus support. Now you can stream live audio directly to other Audiobus-compatible apps! See http://audiob.us for more information. Works as input and filter. - Audiobus state saving support - Inter-App Audio support - Background audio support: enabled when connected to Audiobus and user switchable otherwise. The 'background audio" switch is located in app's "settings" page iPad2/iPhone4S or newer is recommended for complex presets this app is optimized for iPad and iPhone 5 To get started please watch the tutorial videos on the website and read the user guide inside the app
Multimode Ladder Filter
This app emulates a classic 1965 ladder filter, offering five distinct modes for versatile sound shaping. It provides warm analog-style distortion and the ability to drive the filter into self-oscillation for unique sonic textures. A dry/wet control allows for parallel filtering.
- 4-pole ladder filter emulation
- Five filter modes (LP, HP, BP, Notch, Resonant)
- Analog-style distortion with drive
- Self-oscillation at high resonance
- Dry/wet parallel filtering control

A 4-pole (24 dB/oct) ladder filter modeled after the topology designed by Robert Moog in 1965. Four cascaded one-pole stages with tanh saturation at input and feedback produce warm analog-style distortion that scales with drive and resonance. Five filter modes (lowpass, highpass, bandpass, notch, and resonant) cover everything from classic subtractive sweeps to sharp self-oscillating leads. Resonance drives the filter to self-oscillation at high values, generating a sine tone at the cutoff frequency. A dry/wet control enables parallel filtering.

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Multimode Ladder Filter at 5.0 against rrarrow's 4.6. Multimode Ladder Filter also leads on update cadence (every 4 days vs every 4 weeks) and price ($1.99 vs $3.99). rrarrow's advantage is ratings volume (18 vs 2) and device support (4 vs 2). On ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

rrarrow costs $3.99 and Multimode Ladder Filter $1.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Multimode Ladder Filter holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: rrarrow has 18 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two.
rrarrow ships an update every 4 weeks, Multimode Ladder Filter every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 24, 2026 respectively.
