CobbMeter is a medical tool designed to measure the Cobb angle, the kyphosis angle, and the sacral slope on vertical spine radiographs. It is intended to the Spinal care professional, and turns the iPhone into a professional measuring tool. " I designed CobbMeter with Regis Rigal as the professional tool I had always needed in my everyday practice in both Orthopedic Spine Surgery and Spinal non operative care. A tool that fits in the pocket in the very same device that I use to manage my busy schedule, that I can call immediately by pressing an icon, and which can be used on both regular radiographs or even a (vertical) computer screen to measure accurately the Cobb angle in spinal deformities, but also the kyphosis angle in spinal fractures and the sacral slope in degenerative and deformitic conditions. All that one has to do in using the device is align the side of the iPhone to the standard tracings we use routinely, and the position sensor built in the iPhone will do the rest. The precision of the device itself is 1/10th of a degree, far more precise than the precision of the measure as determined in everyday practice and the literature. Measures are logged for further use and may be sent by e-mail to the surgeon or staff for recording purposes, with the levels of the measured curve, type of curve and patient id or number. A calibration procedure was also implemented to accurately measure the angle with the horizontal plane as in the sacral slope. Through though the developpement, Regis has shown an extraordinary sense of patience and astounding programming skills so as to accurately provide a tool that fits the needs of the surgeon and the spine care provider to best treat the patients ; and I thank him for his efforts. I am very proud of releasing this small software in the community, and I hope it will facilitate a little bit the life of my dear colleagues and the patients. I thank the colleagues who gave me their kind advice on the software during its developpement and wish they will find it useful." About

SagittalMeter Pro

This app helps medical practitioners measure key parameters of sagittal balance directly from X-ray images using a phone. It aids in analyzing spine alignment for pre-operative planning and surgical outcomes. The tool provides measurements for pelvic incidence, pelvic tilt, sacral slope, and various lumbar and spinal angles.

Highlights
  • Measure sagittal balance parameters
  • Analyze spine alignment
  • Pre-operative planning tool
  • Calculate pelvic incidence, tilt, and sacral slope
  • Measure lumbar lordosis
  • Advanced mode for comprehensive analysis

SagittalMeter is an educative app to easily measure sagittal balance parameters, by directly placing your phone on the sagittal X-Rays. The sagittal balance is an imperative factor to take into consideration for all practitioners treating spine problems and particularly for surgeons during the pre-operative phase. The compensatory mechanisms of a sagittal unbalanced spine may prevent a successful surgery outcome. A fundamental understanding of a correct sagittal alignment is strongly recommended in determining the correct use of fusion or non fusion devices. SagittalMeter enables you to measure 3 fundamental angles which are essential to analyze sagittal alignment (for pre, per and post-operative phases): • Pelvic incidence (PI) • Pelvic tilt (PT) • Sacral slope (SS) Values of lumbar lordosis are also important parameters to describe sagittal balance, so with SagittalMeter you can measure both: • L1-S1 lordosis • L4-S1 lordosis You can do a complete sagittal balance analysis by using advanced mode which extends the previous values with the following measures: • Occipito-C2 angle • Spino-sacral angle (SSA), angle between line from C7/T1 center to S1 plateau center and surface of S1 plateau • C7/T1 slope • C7-C2 angle • Spino-cranial angle (CIA), angle between line from C2 Dens to C7/T1 center and surface of C7/T1 endplate What does it mean? If a patient appears to have sagittal imbalance, this needs to be taken into consideration in the pre-operative planning. Any surgical treatment option should aim at the re-establishment of an ‘economic’ posture, achieved with the restoration of the patient specific sagittal balance. Remembering all theoretical normal values is very important but is definitively not easy and can even be impossible. SagittalMeter gives you the possibility to measure all the parameters in a quick way and gives you the average theoretical normal values for an equivalent asymptomatic healthy patient. How much correction do I need to restore a good balance in daily practice? Before any kind of lumbar fusion including the segment L4 to S1 it is mandatory to analyse the spine balance. If the PT or the lumbar lordosis are not correlated with the value of the PI, an approximation of the amount of correction requested can be evaluated with the FBI technique: C7 translation angle + Femur obliquity angle + PT compensation angle. SagittalMeter enables you to evaluate the FBI index value to get an average correction value.
