Visual Vertical Lite makes subjective visual vertical (SVV) testing simple and accessible using equipment you already have. Traditional SVV testing can require specialised equipment and a controlled visual environment. Visual Vertical Lite provides a practical alternative using your iPhone, a bucket and a small piece of Blu Tack. HOW IT WORKS Mount your iPhone inside the bottom of a bucket using Blu Tack. The person being tested holds the bucket to their face and adjusts the line on screen until it appears vertical. Visual Vertical Lite measures the resulting deviation from true vertical and displays the result in degrees. This application enables video head impulse testing (vHIT) using an iPhone. A dedicated fixation device is attached to the iPhone and held in place by the subject biting on the mouthpiece. The 3D design data for this fixation device are available on the developer’s website. The application records eye movements using high-speed video capture and analyzes the recorded video to generate graphs of eye movement. Simultaneously, motion sensor data from the iPhone are acquired and used to generate graphs of head movement. The analysis results can be saved as image files. These saved images can also be attached to and sent via email. This application and fixation device have been used in research studies approved by an institutional ethics committee in Japan. They are intended for research purposes only and must not be used for clinical diagnosis or treatment.
