Within a short period of time of training, most people realise their improvement in short term memory and can complete the "Easy" difficulty at ease then it's time to challenge the "Hard" difficulty. With "Hard" difficulty, it trains your brain capacity and observation skills. It is not difficult to memorise small changes over a short period of time, but once it exceeds your brain capacity, it becomes difficult.
