Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: HE.NET Network Tools at 4.0 against FortiEDR's 3.0. HE.NET Network Tools also leads on ratings volume (72 vs 2) and update cadence (every 2 months vs every 4 months). FortiEDR's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 76%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
HE.NET Network Tools holds the better App Store score, 4.0 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: HE.NET Network Tools has 72 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 76% of HE.NET Network Tools's written reviews are positive against 100% of FortiEDR's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
HE.NET Network Tools ships an update every 2 months, FortiEDR every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on October 23, 2026 and October 22, 2026 respectively.
