Spades is a trick-taking card game that can be played with 3 players solo, 4 players solo, or 4 players with partners (2 teams of 2). A standard 52-card deck is dealt, then players bid the number of tricks they can take. The goal is to take as many tricks as were bid. When playing with partners, North/South is one team, West/East is the other, and teammates' bids and tricks are combined, so one player's underbid can compensate for his teammate's overbid. This app allows you to configure number of players and teams, the appearance of the table and cards, rules about nil bids and when spades can be lead. There are instructions included in the app, as well as a setting to make your robot opponents less aggressive or more aggressive.

GAME FEATURES • Classic look and feel • 3 levels of difficulty • Ability to play offline • Clever computer opponents • Large, easy to read cards • 2 game modes - Classic & Omnibus • 3 game speeds to choose from HOW TO PLAY Hearts is one of the most popular card games in the world. It is played with a standard set of 52 playing cards and is closely related to other trick-taking games like Spades and Euchre. The object of the game is to score the least amount of points. You earn points for every heart you take and if you are unlucky enough to get the Queen of Spades then you are stuck with an extra 13 points. In the default game mode in Simple Hearts, the game ends when someone reaches 50 points. However, that can be changed to 100 points, 150 points or it can be set to end after 1, 3 or 5 rounds of play. HEARTS TERMINOLOGY • Breaking Hearts: Hearts cannot lead a trick until a Heart has been discarded on a trick • Discarding Cards: Players can discard any card if they are unable to play a card of the led suit • First Trick: All penalty cards cannot be played on the first trick. This includes Hearts and the Queen of Spades • Following Suit: Players must follow the suit of the first card played in each trick, if possible • Hand: The cards held by one player • Passing: Before each round, each player will pass three cards to another player. The direction of the cards passed will change each round • Penalty Cards: Hearts are worth 1 point and the Queen of Spades is worth 13 points • Shooting The Moon: When a player collects all Hearts and the Queen of Spades in a single round, they instead score zero and each opponent scores 26 points • Trick: One card played from each player forms the trick • Trick Winner: The player with the highest value card of the led suit collects each trick • Voiding a Suit: When a player no longer has any cards of a specific suit, that suit is considered voided. This allows the player to play cards of other suits when that suit is led TIPS • Be careful when passing cards. You may help an opponent who is trying to shoot the moon if you pass all high ranking cards • Keep track of cards that have been played! There are 13 cards of each suit in the deck. Play around the cards you know are remaining in the deck • Voiding a suit (getting rid of all cards of a specific suit in your hand) is a great way to play your penalty cards on opponents SUPPORT AND FEEDBACK If you have any technical problems, please email us directly at uv-support@magmic.com. Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Spades at none against Simple Hearts's 3. Spades also leads on rating (4.7 vs 4.4) and update cadence (monthly vs every 3 months). Simple Hearts's advantage is review sentiment (65% vs 45%) and iOS requirement (11.0 vs 15.0). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Simple Hearts sells 3 one-off in-app purchases. Spades asks for nothing beyond the download.
Spades holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 4.4. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Spades has 2.5K ratings behind it against 235, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 45% of Spades's written reviews are positive against 65% of Simple Hearts's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Spades ships an update monthly, Simple Hearts every 3 months. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and October 21, 2026 respectively.
