Verdict
The clearest difference is ratings volume: Comic Geeks at 4.4K against ComicShelf's 2. Comic Geeks also leads on device support (3 vs 1) and iOS requirement (14.0 vs 17.0). ComicShelf's advantage is review sentiment (100% vs 77%) and update cadence (weekly vs monthly). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.9 for Comic Geeks against 5.0 for ComicShelf. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Comic Geeks has 4.4K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 77% of Comic Geeks's written reviews are positive against 100% of ComicShelf's.
Comic Geeks ships an update monthly, ComicShelf weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 13, 2026 and October 7, 2026 respectively.
