Verdict
LiveLib and Almost read both sit at 4.6 stars, but that hides the real split: 88% of Almost read's written reviews are positive against 29% of LiveLib's. LiveLib's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 3) and ratings volume (390 vs 25). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Almost read sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per month. LiveLib asks for nothing beyond the download.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for LiveLib against 4.7 for Almost read. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: LiveLib has 390 ratings behind it against 25, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 29% of LiveLib's written reviews are positive against 88% of Almost read's.
LiveLib ships an update fortnightly, Almost read every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 12, 2026 and October 10, 2026 respectively.
