Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: Buzz Words at 100% against Spelling Bee's 41%. Buzz Words also leads on in-app purchases (none vs 7) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 17.0). Spelling Bee's advantage is rating (4.6 vs 4.0) and update cadence (weekly vs every 23 months). On price, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Spelling Bee sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month. Buzz Words asks for nothing beyond the download.
Spelling Bee holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Spelling Bee has 791 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Buzz Words's written reviews are positive against 41% of Spelling Bee's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Buzz Words ships an update every 23 months, Spelling Bee weekly. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
