Verdict
XuetangX and VideoNotes both sit at 4.7 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of VideoNotes's written reviews are positive against 57% of XuetangX's. VideoNotes also leads on update cadence (every 9 days vs every 6 weeks). XuetangX's advantage is monetization model (free vs free with in-app purchases) and ratings volume (292 vs 13). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. XuetangX sells 10 one-off in-app purchases and VideoNotes sells 2 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.7 for XuetangX against 4.8 for VideoNotes. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: XuetangX has 292 ratings behind it against 13, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 57% of XuetangX's written reviews are positive against 100% of VideoNotes's.
XuetangX ships an update every 6 weeks, VideoNotes every 9 days. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 17, 2026 respectively.
