Verdict
The clearest difference is in-app purchases: 新民 at none against Cnbeta's 1. 新民 also leads on ads (none vs shown) and rating (5.0 vs 4.7). Cnbeta's advantage is ratings volume (40 vs 2). On price and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. Cnbeta sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. 新民 asks for nothing beyond the download.
新民 holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Cnbeta has 40 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two.
Cnbeta ships an update every 3 months, 新民 every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 1, 2026 respectively.
