Sock Finder vs Tree Height Meter
Price, ratings, monetisation and update history for both apps, side by side — with what reviewers say about each.
Sock Finder
This app is designed for entertainment, humorously claiming to use advanced algorithms to locate lost socks. It playfully suggests its powerful processing can solve the mystery of missing hosiery, though it explicitly states it does not offer real-world functionality.
- Entertainment purposes only
- Advanced sock-finding algorithms
- Humorous take on lost socks
- Leverages smartphone processing power
- Limitations noted for tights

This app is intended for entertainment purposes only and does not provide true Sock Finding functionality. It is often said that the modern smartphone is orders of magnitude more powerful than the computer systems that flew the Apollo astronauts to the moon in the sixties. With Sock Finder, we’re finally beginning to leverage that power. With millions of transistors running in parallel, on a modern quad core system that pushes vast pools of DRAM to the limits, our sock finding algorithms have finally found expression. We’ve been refining these routines ever since Deep Blue beat Gary Kasparov in 1997, proving once and for all that emergent AI systems could match or better the complexity of the human mind. Sometimes socks go missing and 100 billion organic neurons just can’t cut it. This is where we step in. Take the plunge – see what next generation software can do. What do you have to lose? (Not your socks, you’ve already lost those) Purpose : Helping you find your socks. Limitations : Does not work on tights. Warning : Current heuristics follow a complex mutable deterministic pseudo-pattern that may obviate successful hoof furnishing location and retrieval under certain inexpressible circumstances.
Tree Height Meter
Estimate the height of trees, poles, and buildings using your phone's camera and trigonometry. Offers two measurement methods and can also calculate distance and area. Useful for professionals and curious individuals alike.
- Estimates tree, pole, and building heights
- Two-point and eye-height measurement methods
- Live elevation-angle readout
- Distance and area calculation
- Timber volume estimation
- Exportable measurement history

How tall is that tree? Tree Height Meter turns your phone into a digital clinometer and estimates the height of any tree, utility pole, flagpole or building — no tape to the top, no special gear, just your phone and a little trigonometry. Stand back a known distance, sight the top and the base of your target, and the app combines the elevation angles with the distance to show an estimated height in metres or feet. TWO MEASURING METHODS • Two-point method — sight both the TOP and the BASE from one spot and enter the horizontal distance. Works even on sloping ground, because the base angle correctly adds its share. • Eye-height method — when the base sits level with your feet, sight only the TOP and add your own eye height. Faster, for flat ground. WHAT YOU GET • A live elevation-angle readout as you tilt the phone • Capture top and base with a tap • Zero-at-horizon calibration for a clean reading • Metres or feet, your choice • A Methods reference and a step-by-step Guide built in WHO IT'S FOR Foresters and arborists, surveyors and landscapers, tree-care crews, students learning trigonometry, and anyone curious how tall the tree in the yard really is. A NOTE ON ACCURACY The height is an estimate. Accuracy depends on a correct distance, a steady phone and a clear line of sight to the top and base — zero on a level horizon first. For estimation only; verify critical measurements with a calibrated instrument. MORE THAN TREES • Distance — sight the top of something whose height you know (a door, a pole, a building) and read how far away it is. • Area — enter the sides of a rectangle or a four-sided plot and get m², ft², acres or hectares. No tape? The pace helper turns your steps into metres. • Timber — estimate standing-tree volume from height and DBH, plus log yield in board feet by the Doyle, Scribner and International ¼-inch rules. Tree height carries over from your last saved measurement. HOW TO AIM Hold the phone upright, look across its top edge and tilt the back of the phone up toward the treetop. Looking up reads positive, looking down reads negative, and a light tap confirms each capture. Every height is saved to your history, where you can export a CSV or build a summary report.

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Sock Finder at 4.3 against Tree Height Meter's 1.0. Sock Finder also leads on ads (none vs shown) and monetization model (free vs ad-supported). Tree Height Meter's advantage is update cadence (every 3 days vs every 25 months). On price, in-app purchases and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.
