Verdict
East Coast App and Explore Kid both sit at 4.8 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of East Coast App's written reviews are positive against 50% of Explore Kid's. East Coast App also leads on monetization model (free vs paid) and ratings volume (24 vs 1). Explore Kid's advantage is update cadence (every 6 weeks vs every 3 months). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Explore Kid holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: East Coast App has 24 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of East Coast App's written reviews are positive against 50% of Explore Kid's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
East Coast App ships an update every 3 months, Explore Kid every 6 weeks. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
