OstSeeTiere vs Robben.App

Mit dieser App können Sichtungen und Totfunde von Meeressäugetieren der Ostsee, wie den bedrohten Schweinswalen (IUCN Rote Liste) und den Robben (Kegelrobbe, Seehund und Ringelrobbe) gemeldet werden. Alle gemeldeten Sichtungen werden der Öffentlichkeit in einer interaktiven Karte zugänglich gemacht. Gemeldete Totfunde an der Küste Mecklenburg-Vorpommern werden durch das Deutschen Meeresmuseum (DMM) in Stralsund geborgen und eingehend auf Gesundheitszustand und Todesursache untersucht. Diese Daten werden vom DMM wissenschaftlich ausgewertet, interpretiert und ergänzen dadurch weitere wissenschaftliche Methoden zur Erforschung der Meeressäugetiere, wie der Flug- und Schiffzählung und den akustischen Lautaufnahmen. Mithilfe dieser gesammelten Daten können Gebiete in der Ostsee, welche von besonderer Bedeutung sind, z.B. für die Aufzucht bzw. Geburt von Schweinswalkälbern, lokalisiert werden. Des Weiteren dienen die Daten für die Erhaltung und ggfs. Erweiterung bestehender Schutzkonzepte.

Every year, many sick or dead seals and whales are discovered along the coasts of Schleswig-Holstein. These are often reported to the police, the seal wardens and the Friedrichskoog Seal Station. Often it is not easy to tell if a seal really needs help. Only experts, the seal wardens, can make that decision. Because of their training, the seal wardens know exactly how to approach the animals and how they can best be helped. Seal wardens also take care of dead animals. Some of the dead animals are later examined to determine the cause of death. With the Robben.App you can help the seal wardens to ensure the wellbeing of seals and whales on our coast. If you find an animal that you think needs help, you can use the Robben.App to report it immediately to the seal wardens.
