SoundScaper is an experimental sound mini lab for creating unusual soundscapes, atmospheric textures, drones, glitches and noises based on circuit bending principles. With this application you can easily experiment with creating new and unusual sounds from ordinary samples. For sound designers and those interested in creating ambient or experimental electronic music, with filtering and mixing of up to three oscillators, you can create excellent soundscapes, textures and drones for your music or for movie soundtrack or entertainment apps and games. With complete MIDI control this application is very comfortable and powerful instrument to use for real-time sound creation and live improvisation. The oscillators, based on simulating schematics of actual 8 bit lofi sound playback chips, have circuit bending like controls that are ideal for making glitches, noises, crackles and granular sounds. Combined with the filtering and spatial mixing options, you can expand these sounds to deep and atmospheric textures. Finally you can add motion and continuous changes to your sounds via low frequency oscillators which can control the filter and mixer parameters. The "Morphing scene" option gives you ability of smooth switching between scenes, applying multifunctional filters and changing oscillators parameters during morphing process. Using these features you can add a new dimension to the existing scenes varying them in the real time. What's inside: - Three sample-based oscillators with control based on circuit bending principles. - Three Low / High / Band - pass filters and two range delay for each oscillator. - Spatial mixer / reverb with side and distance for each sound source. - Three low frequency oscillators for automation mixer and filters. - Possibility of generating parameters for each oscillator automatically. - Scenes for storing all parameters of oscillators, filters and mixer. - Morphing with smooth switching between scenes and additional effects in real-time. - Built-in library of natural samples grouped by categories. - Set of ready-to-use presets for oscillators. Additional features: - Advanced control panel for all faders and rotary knobs with large controls. - Individual equalizer and reverb options for each sound source in the spatial mixer. - Complete MIDI control for all faders, knobs and most other elements. - Uploading samples through Dropbox, Web access, clipboard and from other apps. - Different color schemes available for the user interface. - Detailed application description (also in signle PDF on application site). - Supports Audiobus 3 with "State Saving" and MIDI features. - Inter-App audio compatible. Video demo: http://youtu.be/6rxHhtF2eSU http://youtu.be/O29XyzeVMYs https://youtu.be/HRXdiH-zbqU Requirements: Fourth generation of iPad and higher is recommended (especially with Inter-app audio and Audiobus). Read full description

Replicant 3 is a real-time audio slicing and mangling effect, the third generation of the plugin that started the genre in 2007. Feed it any audio and Replicant's sequencer captures, loops, reverses, and re-slices it on the fly, layering in delay, filtering, panning, ring modulation, and bit-crushing to turn predictable tracks into something unpredictable. Version 3 is a ground-up rebuild with an all-new sequencer engine, expanded effects, and a redesigned interface that makes programming complex slice patterns fast and intuitive. SEQUENCER ENGINE Program 3 to 16 steps per measure with multiple step-size modes, from dotted notes through nontuplets. Build rhythmic patterns that go well beyond straight time. Per-step probability, direction (forward or reverse), and effect routing let you create patterns that evolve and surprise. FOUR SLICE EFFECTS The original Stutter capture-and-repeat is joined by three new modes. Delay adds rhythmic echoes to sliced audio. Redukt applies bit-crushing and sample-rate reduction for lo-fi destruction. Ring Mod adds metallic, inharmonic tonal coloring to any slice event. ENVELOPE CROSSFADING Smooth transitions or hard-gated rhythmic chops on every slice event. Control the attack and release shape of each captured buffer for precise dynamic control. MANUAL AND MIDI TRIGGER Bypass the sequencer entirely and fire slices on demand. Manual trigger mode works with touchscreens for live performance. MIDI trigger lets you drive Replicant from a controller, keyboard, or DAW automation. REDESIGNED INTERFACE A visual step sequencer puts your entire pattern on screen at once. Edit steps, assign effects, set probabilities, and adjust parameters without menu-diving. CROSS-PLATFORM PRESETS XML-based preset manager with presets compatible across all Audio Damage plugin formats and operating systems. SOUND DESIGN IDEAS Sequence stuttering vocal chops with per-step filter sweeps. Build glitched-out drum fills by randomizing slice direction and bit-crushing depth. Layer ring modulation on sustained pads for metallic, evolving textures. Use MIDI trigger mode to fire slices manually in a live set. Program polyrhythmic slice patterns with odd step counts against 4/4 time. Run full mixes through Replicant on a bus for controlled chaos breakdowns. AUv3 compatible. Runs standalone or hosted in AUM, ApeMatrix, Audiobus, Cubasis, GarageBand, and other AUv3 hosts on iOS 11 or newer. From Audio Damage, making creative software for discerning musicians since 2002.

Verdict

The call

The clearest difference is update cadence: SoundScaper at monthly against Replicant 3's every 18 months. SoundScaper also leads on review sentiment (90% vs 67%) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 12.0). Replicant 3's advantage is price ($4.99 vs $9.99). On ads, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.
