There are things you want to write down without worrying about what anyone else might think. Sometimes you want a personal album of memories that isn't meant to be shared with anyone. MemoMa is an app for people like you. MemoMa displays only your own notes and photos. There are no ads or recommendation algorithms, so you can enjoy a completely private space, free from social media. It's perfect for keeping a journal of everyday life that doesn't need to be shared, or for recording personal health information that you'd rather keep private. Of course, you can also relive your favorite trips through photos and add notes to your pictures so they're easier to find later. Your notes are available across your iPhone, iPad, and Mac, so you can pick up where you left off on any of your devices. If you enable iCloud Photos, your photos will be available across your devices as well. Simply open MemoMa and tap the "+" button to create a note. Your notes appear in chronological order on each day's timeline. Photos are not imported into MemoMa. Instead, the app displays the photos you've taken with the Camera app. You can choose to display only specific albums or hide photos you don't want to see. Long-press a photo and select "Add Note" to make it searchable by the note's contents. You can search using multiple keywords with either "Match All" or "Match Any" options. If you set a date and time when creating a note, it can also be saved as a calendar event. In Edit mode, you can duplicate notes and events, change their dates, or delete multiple items at once. You can take notes while viewing your photos, keep the notes, and later delete photos you no longer need with a simple long press. Please note: MemoMa cannot protect the privacy of items added to public calendars or shared photo albums. Calendar data itself is not encrypted, so other apps that have access to the same calendar may also be able to view it. To help protect your privacy, MemoMa includes a Private Mode that prevents others from casually viewing your information. For more information, please read the User Guide from the Settings screen in the app.

Tend is a journal that stays on your device and actually helps you think. Write freely, knowing your words are private. Tend uses Apple's on-device AI to reflect back what you're saying, surface patterns you might miss, and ask the questions you didn't think to ask yourself. No account. No servers of mine. No one reading over your shoulder. WRITE YOUR WAY Start with a sentence or fill a page. Tend meets you where you are, with a daily prompt if you want one and a blank page if you don't. Track your mood, tag your entries, attach photos, and save your location. AI THAT HELPS YOU REFLECT After you write, Tend's on-device AI offers reflection questions based on what you actually said. Not generic prompts, but responses that feel like they listened. Want to go deeper? You can optionally send a single entry to Claude for a richer conversation. SEE YOUR PATTERNS Insights shows you the shape of your month: mood trends, your most-used words, and when you tend to write. The calendar gives you a visual map of your emotional life over time. SET INTENTIONS, NOT OBLIGATIONS Tend's intentions aren't todo items. They're directions you want to grow toward. Link entries to intentions and watch your progress unfold naturally. PRIVATE BY DEFAULT Your entries are stored locally and encrypted by iOS. There's no account to create, no analytics, and no ads. Cross-device sync is off unless you turn it on, and it runs through your own iCloud account, which I have no access to. The only time anything reaches an outside server is when you explicitly tap "Go Deeper," and even then your name is stripped and nothing is retained. PREMIUM (OPTIONAL) Free includes on-device AI reflections, unlimited entries, and every core journaling feature, all fully local. Premium is $6.99/month, auto-renewing, and adds unlimited Go Deeper conversations with Claude, iCloud sync across devices, import and export, historical insights, and memory. Your journal should be the one place where you don't perform. Tend is that place. Privacy Policy: [your URL] Terms of Use: https://www.apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula/

Verdict
The clearest difference is rating: Tend Journal at 5.0 against MemoMa's 4.3. Tend Journal also leads on update cadence (every 2 days vs fortnightly). MemoMa's advantage is ratings volume (24 vs 1). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MemoMa sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per month and Tend Journal sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $6.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
Tend Journal holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MemoMa has 24 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.
MemoMa ships an update fortnightly, Tend Journal every 2 days. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 5, 2026 respectively.
