Verdict
The clearest difference is price: Onion Browser at Free against Charles Proxy's $8.99. Onion Browser also leads on ratings volume (13K vs 185) and rating (4.3 vs 4.0). Charles Proxy's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 10) and chart position (#111 vs unranked). On review sentiment and ads there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Onion Browser is free to download; Charles Proxy costs $8.99 up front. Onion Browser sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Charles Proxy asks for nothing beyond the download.
Onion Browser holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Onion Browser has 13K ratings behind it against 185, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 51% of Onion Browser's written reviews are positive against 52% of Charles Proxy's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Onion Browser ships an update every 2 months, Charles Proxy every 4 months. Both last shipped on September 24, 2026.
