Reading with comfort is a dream of any book lover! It’s more than 10 years already that my i2Reader has been making this dream come true. With each version of the app I add a bunch of new options and always try to keep the pleasure of reading a top priority. When putting books on digital shelves or turning over their 3D pages on any device (Mac, iPhone or iPad), you will always feel “I too Reader”* * - this is not a mistake :) Main features: • iCloud support: your library is synchronized in all your devices. You can start reading a book on iPhone and continue doing it on iPad or Mac! Everything from last the opened page, bookmarksо, highlighters to book metadata, including user's choice of a book cover, titles, genres, keywords, series etc. - is synchronized in each book; • Footnotes are displayed on the bottom of the page – like in real paper books! • Full support of 3D Touch: - in a library: to peek at a book info, press slightly on it; swipe up to bring up a context menu for this book; - when reading, you can assign 3D Touch to one of these options: Wikipedia or dictionaries. Press on a word and the assigned option will run right away, bypassing context menu. • Interactive guide to introduce features of the app; • Support of multitasking Side Over and Split View for iPad Pro, iPad Air or iPad mini; • Support Drag and Drop for iPad under iOS 11; • AutoScrolling – vertical text scrolling with adjustable by horizontal swipe speed; • Auto Turning – automatic page turning according to timer; • download books from Dropbox, Google Drive and Yandex disk as well. Google Drive now supports download of GDOC (Google Docs) files; • User's access: now all members of your family can read the same books not interfering with each other. Besides, the new feature enables you to highlight text fragments and comment on it, thus making up mini-chats in your own mini social/family networks :) • Review of reading statistics for both particular books and individual library users; • adjust brightness of the screen with a two-fingers vertical swipe; • finest configuration of a book layout for the most comfortable reading: everything like fonts, font size, colors, background is adjustable, including paragraph and line spacing; • i2Reader works with FB2 (also fb2.zip or fbz), EPUB (no DRM protection), MOBI, RTF, MS Word DOC/DOCX and PDF book formats; • different ways of page turning (including 3d page turning and vertical scroll); • voice/audio reading with the use of voice synthesizer; • easy selection and sorting of books based on various criteria - you won't get lost in your library and find your book in no time; • you can also create digital shelves which are also synchronized via iCloud; • support of starDict and XDXF dictionaries when reading; • Support of in-built iOS dictionaries; • support of Lingvo dictionaries when reading (if you have installed Lingvo app); • widget for notification center; • you can now share quotes to Facebook, twitter, Evernote or send then via email; • you can also download books from public OPDS libraries. All features in one simple and handy interface - now everything is at your fingertips! You are always welcome to share your opinion and suggestions to support@i2reader.net

Reading books on portable devices is always a compromise between comfort of reading and text availability. ShortBook² offers an original way of solving this problem with its careful approach to text makeup on the limited screen area of iPhone or iPad. A lot of experiments with various text compositions and interface layouts have jelled the unique match for convenient reading. If you need to read for a long time, with comfort and without any considerable damage to the sight take advantage of the ShortBook² program — a high-end reader. ShortBook² focuses on the layout process, allowing the user to control virtually all text placement options. Moreover, the program analyzes the text and places decorative elements in various places, which not only decorate the book and bring their atmosphere into it, but also simplify the reading process. Thus, in ShortBook², even "picture-free" books look attractive and do not tire with the external monotony while reading, which not only increases reader comfort, but also reduces eye fatigue from the reading process. The program fully supports FB2 electronic books format including contents, footnotes and figures. Any electronic book can be easily converted to this format with free utilities though using a variety of web libraries with books already in this format is much more simple. To meet personal preferences, the application has rich settings, including several dozens of customizable parameters. The book index has several sorting modes allowing to find a required writing easily. Reading can be quickly restarted after a break with one touch of the screen. The reader keeps reading statistics and offers developed means of monitoring the reading process. The application was developed using the latest technologies, therefore it is not available for users of iOS 12 and below. These users can use the classic ShortBook application. ShortBook² is available by subscription. The subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Subscribers gain access to all Short Review materials that will be published during the subscription period. Short Review materials contain reviews of the book market of electronic publications in Russia, book ratings and recommendations for organizing reading. Verdict
The clearest difference is monetization model: i2Reader Cloud at free with in-app purchases against ShortBook²'s subscription. i2Reader Cloud also leads on ratings volume (74 vs 13) and review sentiment (48% vs 40%). ShortBook²'s advantage is rating (4.6 vs 4.1). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. i2Reader Cloud sells 5 one-off in-app purchases and ShortBook² sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $9.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
ShortBook² holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.1. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: i2Reader Cloud has 74 ratings behind it against 13, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 48% of i2Reader Cloud's written reviews are positive against 40% of ShortBook²'s, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
i2Reader Cloud ships an update every 3 months, ShortBook² every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 7, 2026 and October 8, 2026 respectively.
