Verdict
The clearest difference is price: Flashcard Max at Free against Studies's $4.99. Flashcard Max also leads on update cadence (every 5 days vs every 2 months) and review sentiment (83% vs 62%). Studies's advantage is rating (4.6 vs 4.3) and ratings volume (384 vs 21). On ads, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Flashcard Max is free to download; Studies costs $4.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.
Studies holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Studies has 384 ratings behind it against 21, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 62% of Studies's written reviews are positive against 83% of Flashcard Max's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
Studies ships an update every 2 months, Flashcard Max every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on October 19, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
