Best iPhone Duo apps: what support means and which to install first

More than two dozen apps in the App Store already show screenshots made for the iPhone Duo, Apple's foldable, which Apple announced on September 9, 2026. This guide picks the ones worth installing first, explains how to tell real Duo support from a stretched iPhone app, and links to our deeper lists for productivity and AI apps and games. Figures below date from October 25, 2026.
What "iPhone Duo support" means
Apple has no public "made for Duo" badge. The only signal in the App Store is the listing itself: a developer who uploads screenshots for the Duo's inner display (landscape, in Apple's data) is saying the app was prepared for it. AppsHunter reads that signal and shows an "iPhone Duo support" feature on the app page. The label means the developer uploaded Duo screenshots. How much the layout changed is a separate question.
That difference matters. Apple's guidance says apps built with the iOS 27 SDK already extend toward the edges of the inner display, and that standard navigation and toolbars arrive fully with the iOS 27.1 SDK. We covered the hardware and the SDK timeline in our iOS 27 launch-day post. Apps that skip the work still run, but they look like an enlarged phone app.
To check an app yourself, open its App Store page and scroll the screenshots for a landscape set that matches the Duo's shape, then read the "What's New" text. Developers who rebuilt the layout usually say so. Things 3, for example, names its new sidebar and thumb controls. Many others only mention a bug fix, and for those we say "ships Duo screenshots" and nothing more.
One reviewer's view of the current state is worth ten minutes. EFTM's video review argues that the hardware is excellent and the app gap is the main drawback.
The review notes that some apps run in enlarged windows, apps built only for iOS 27 can leave a black bar on the outer screen, and Netflix works well half-open with the video above and controls below. Treat that as a snapshot: many developers shipped updates between October 21 and 24.
The picks at a glance
The table lists six of the picks below, with their App Store ratings and prices: three productivity and AI apps, two games and one drawing app.

287K | Free | |
519K | Free | |
4 | $4.99 | |

13K | $5.99 |
Productivity and AI: Things 3, Claude, Perplexity
Things 3 is the one app here rebuilt for the Duo by its own account. Cultured Code's update of October 22 reshapes the layout for each pose, gives the unfolded screen a sidebar of lists, and puts controls in a bar by your right thumb. The iPhone app costs $9.99, and its 4.8 stars come from roughly 28,000 ratings. Owners grumble that running it on several devices adds up.
This app helps you organize your life by planning your day, managing projects, and tracking progress toward your goals. It offers a clean interface to manage tasks, projects, and life areas, making it easy to focus on what matters.
Claude and Perplexity are free to download and both ship Duo screenshots. Perplexity's October 23 update says plainly that it "now supports Duo". Claude's last two updates list only bug fixes, so for Claude the claim stops at screenshots. Both suit the bigger screen for the same reason: long answers, sources and a chat side by side are easier to read on 7.6 inches. Our productivity and AI post covers these two, plus Streaks and two AI agent apps, in detail.
Games: Orisuji, Tiny Computers, Toastie
The best Duo games use the hinge as part of the play. Orisuji, a $4.99 paper maze puzzle, makes the fold the move: one half of the screen becomes a page you lay over the maze to bridge holes, and unfolding lifts it off. Tiny Computers ($3.99) turns the Duo into a miniature desktop machine in tabletop mode, with the machine on the top half and its keyboard on the bottom. In Toastie ($2.99), shutting the phone closes the toaster lid.

All three are new and have very few ratings, so treat their scores with care. The games post has the details, including ArcFlush, a roguelike solitaire game, and Deck-Man, a cassette-player app that is more toy than game.
Creative and media apps
Procreate Pocket ($5.99) ships eight Duo screenshots, and its rating of 3.8 from about 12,800 reviews is lower than most apps here. Its latest release notes, for version 5, cover new brushes and hardware compatibility, but they do not describe a Duo layout. The drawing app TypeDraw ($4.99) is more specific: an update on October 24 says that holding the Duo upright gives one full-screen note, while turning an iPhone sideways opens a two-page spread. It has only 7 ratings so far, and early reviewers asked for consistent scale across poses.
If you draw or take notes a lot, our drawing app and note-taking app topic pages list the alternatives.
Streaming is the other category where a larger screen pays off. Netflix, Crunchyroll and Prime Video all ship Duo screenshots, and Netflix is free to download but needs a subscription to watch. Telegram and Airbnb also ship Duo screenshots (four and two, respectively), though their latest notes only mention general fixes.
What early Duo reviews say
The first owners started reviewing apps on October 23 and 24. Across the games and utilities we checked, the pattern was consistent: the two games that use the fold as a mechanic, Orisuji and Toastie, drew five-star reviews, while apps that depend on pose handling had bugs. Tiny Computers drew one-star and three-star reviews about crashes and keyboard problems on its first day, and its developer shipped an update with Duo usability fixes on October 23. TypeDraw reviewers asked for consistent drawing scale across poses. That is the expected cost of day-one software, and it is a reason to check the "What's New" notes and the latest reviews before you pay.
Before you buy the phone
Apps are the open question for Duo buyers, and the answer improves week by week. For the hardware itself, Tom's Guide has a general hands-on video.
Our practical advice: install the free picks first (Claude, Perplexity, Netflix), then buy the one or two paid apps whose notes describe real Duo changes. Skip anything that shows only screenshots and no release notes until reviews arrive. We will update this list as more developers ship.
FAQ
How do I know if an app supports iPhone Duo?
Look for a set of Duo-shaped screenshots on its App Store page, and read its "What's New" text. On AppsHunter, apps whose listing includes those screenshots show an "iPhone Duo support" feature. That is evidence of preparation, and a redesigned layout needs the release notes to back it up.
Do apps without Duo support still work?
Yes. Apps built for other iPhones run on the Duo, but they may appear in an enlarged window and leave unused space on the outer screen, according to EFTM's review.
Which iPhone Duo apps are free?
Claude, Perplexity, Muse from Meta, Netflix, Telegram and Airbnb are free to download, as of October 2026. Several include in-app purchases or require a subscription, so check each listing.
Which Duo games are worth buying first?
Orisuji and Toastie use the fold as a game mechanic and cost $4.99 and $2.99. See the full games list for the rest.
