A number of new security improvements have been added to Star Mobile: - A new Star Mobile web service is available which supports increased levels of encryption - Scanned expense receipt files are now encrypted on the local device - Star Mobile will no longer run on jailbroken or rooted devices. A number of problems reported by star clients have been resolved in this release of Star Mobile. These include the following: - TSC Staff with the privilege to self-approve were able to delete a submitted timesheet line and then approve the timesheet with fewer than the minimum required hours. This has been corrected. - It was possible to overtype the rate on unit-based expenses. This has been corrected. - Receipt file uploads did not always honour the list of supported file types/filename extensions, and failed to exclude files with no filename extension. This has been corrected. Unsupported file types (e.g. those with extensions .bat or .exe) and files with no filename extension can no longer be uploaded. - If Google Maps is used for mileage calculation when entering unit-based expenses, an optional Map Override field in Setup (in Star PDM) can be used to specify a percentage by which users can adjust calculated mileage. This previously restricted both percentage increases and percentage decreases; it now restricts only increases. - Where time was entered in units, some totals on the Totals screen would be calculated incorrectly. This has been corrected. - After working off-line but before signing in to the application, the timesheet period would intermittently default to 01 JAN 0001. This has been corrected. - Users can no longer search for clients on the server when working offline. If they attempt to do so the application displays the following warning: "Server searches are not allowed when you are working off-line". Star has carried out backward-compatibility tests against the following versions of Star Practice Management to ensure continuity of mobile operation: - Autumn/Fall 2018 - Spring 2018 - Autumn/Fall 2017 - Spring 2017 - Autumn/Fall 2016 Full details of the release are in the Star Mobile release notes, available from your firm's Star Practice Management system administration team. One issue has been addressed within this release of Star Mobile Time & Expenses. Under IOS release 10.3.1, the app could crash when the user took a photo and specifically selected the "Use Photo" option to attach the photo to the selected Expense transaction. The problem has been resolved by this release of Star Mobile.

Star Mobile now includes support for Star PM's advanced expense submission functionality. So if you are using a multi-step expense submission workflow, you'll now be able to enter and submit your expenses using that process. In addition, we've listened to the feedback we've received about expense receipt files not being successfully transferred to the firm's Expense Receipt File folders. So in this release of Star Mobile, we've added checks on successful/unsuccessful transfers, improved retries and helpful messages to let you know the status of the receipt files you've included with your expense claims. As well as a number of minor bug fixes - see the Star Mobile release notes available from Star Support or your firm's Star PM Administrator for full details - we've added improved tracking to time and expense transactions, so that you can now also tell what type of device originated the transaction, based on the operating system of the device (IOS or other). As usual, there is a StarAdmin package to go with this Star Mobile release, so that you can apply all the latest database changes - contact Star Support for details.

This release of Star Mobile (2016.1.0.7) contains a number of improvements (and fixes) driven by feedback from Star clients. The full list of these changes may be found in the Star Release Notes, available from your firm's Star Administrator, but one of the highlights is a vastly improved multi-tab Expense submission view, showing your expenses categorised by Status - Unsubmitted, Submitted or Approved. ADFS users will also find that their user name will be auto-populated whenever they are required to re-authenticate, saving you time. We've also cleaned up behaviour when you keep the app open but switch between Wifi and 3g/4g networks. In order to make your current situation clearer, when you have an active connection to the web service - and therefore to to your firm's Star PM database - a new network connection indicator (spinner) is displayed on the phone's status bar. When you're disconnected the indicator will disappear. The reporting of errors encountered has also been improved and this should make it easier to detect setup or configuration errors. Last but not least, in the past, where all items (Time or Expenses) had been approved at client level, the client name was not being displayed in italics. This has been corrected in this release.

The new 2016.1.0.1 release of Star Mobile makes available both Expense processing and improved authentication via Microsoft ADFS or forms-based authentication using the Microsoft Identity framework. In the Expense module, you can now not only enter and submit your expenses, but also photo and attach your expense receipts to your expense claims. Those with privileges can also approve their own expenses. If your firm uses Active Directory (AD) for authentication, Star Mobile now works with ADFS 3 to provide secure SSO authentication for users. If you're not using AD, then Star now provides user registration and forms-based authentication based on the Microsoft Identity framework.
