  • What’s not to like.

As a self proclaimed explorer…. I absolutely love this app.
  • I can add my own PDF maps!

At trailhead they have Qcodes for maps this app can copy in
  • It basically puts YOU ARE HERE on national park maps!!!!

This is an awesome app, it integrates maps with your GPS. So you can download a map of the national park and it will put it up where you’re at. Looking at a map and thinking is this where we are or is this where we are, it literally shows you where you are if your iOS device is receiving a GPS signal.

I believe it originally gives you a few downloads of maps free, after that it’s something like $.99 for three months of unlimited downloads of maps (and I think even stay on there after your subscription ends).

I have used it before, but I just recently used it At crater Lake and at the Redwoods and it worked excellent.

It can download a layer of some kind of local topographical maps too.

  • Play with it at home first

Great overall. There’s not much of a guide how to use it, but play around with it before you leave and you’ll be fine. The price is a good value. I used gps + maps to find distances and used the topo maps to get a sense of what was ahead. It made my trip at glacier national park go smoothly.
  • Confused

I wish there was a tutorial on how to use this app. I am sitting here trying to just figure out how to look at the map.., least it’s only .99 wasted
  • Rip off

When I tried downloading my second map, the app informed me that I had reached my limit of free maps, and I would need a subscription to continue.
The app doesn't work well, and Most of the functionality promised in the App Store doesn't exist, is available only after subscription, or doesn't work.
My recommendation to the developers is to be honest -- less hype and an app that works would be appreciated!

    Developer Response

No dishonesty, this is an exciting app and all the app features should work perfectly fine without any need for a subscription. Features that may not work as desired are location services on iPad and iPod models without GPS hardware; unfortunately, you will need an iPhone or and iPad with GPS for most of the features to work as described. iPod players don't have GPS. Also, if in a forest, cavern or large build then GPS location service may fail to receive the radio signals. The subscription price is very low and currently is the lowest possible price allowed by the App Store. A one-time purchase stops the ads and doesn't auto-renew. Plus, the subscription is shared between all devices using that iTunes account. It helps us pay the internet hosting companies for the service to download maps. Unfortunately banner ads do not suffice in covering this service cost. Hint: if you want NPS and USGS maps without a subscription, their web site offer free downloads and then you can discover more of the fantastic features that this apps has to offer. If you find a feature that appears to be misbehaving, please email support and we'd love to know about any issue. And, thank you for pointing out the App Store was in need to mention the first few downloads are complementary. Likewise, free food samples at Coscow supermart are a rip off too if you eat the whole plate, can't stop that from happening, Specialness. – Dennis Lindsey
