  • Good Brain Exercise

I like this Scrabble-type game because it keeps my brain alert and it’s fun creating the longest word possible. There is a learning curve because the letters you receive are a gamble. You might end up with all vowels at the end so you learn how to build partial words then connect them together but always leaving your options open for the remaining letters. I like the random opponent game and afterwards when looking at the score I also look at the words the other player created to expand my vocabulary. The game includes wild cards but it will make up a different word than what you had in your mind. You still earn points when submitting it but you have no idea what the word means! It’s a fun game and is challenging but it’s not time consuming unless you can’t walk away from the opponent challenge. I play this game through my Apple Arcade subscription so it’s not looking for all your money like other games. Give it a try!

Thank you for your positive and elaborate review! Your mentioned strategy is a very valid one! Partial words are the key to those 15 letter big score words! It's a low risk, high reward strategy and probably the best way to play the game. Our wild cards will always try to create a valid word regardless of points or outcome, so sometimes they can come up with words that are unknown to the player. Do note that they are malleable, and they will change if you add additional letters to that word. You can read more about them here: https://www.wordsinprogressthegame.com/frequently-asked-questions/#toggle-id-3 A big update with more features is coming soon, so stay tuned! Thank you once again for your review and we wish you fun playing Words in Progress!
  • Screentime Error

Hello. I agree with another review. This seems like a good game, however this is an error with it incorrectly saying there is a Screentime limit on the Daily Challenge, when there is not. I know where to look in my Mac for this setting and it is not turned on anywhere. It is 100% an app issue, not an indivdual. Definitely need to look into this. Hard to review when I can't access all the features. Please do not respond with your generic this is how you fix your screentime like you did with Molly949 review. I know my computer. It's your app.

    Developer Response

Hi! Thank you for your review! We are sorry to hear you are encountering difficulties with our game. We are very open to provide a fix, but it seems (based on research we did due to Molly's review) like you (both) ran into a bit of an edge case. This makes things very difficult for us to test without the exact isolated situation you are in. We would be greatly helped with your direct input. If possible, could you send us a message through our website: https://www.wordsinprogressthegame.com/send-us-a-message/ or directly via mail: info@wordsinprogressthegame.com. We are sure we can provide a fix if we can get some additional back-and-forth input. We hope to hear from you. Either way, we've added your report to our immediate 'to do' list and will surely take a deep dive into the possible source of the issue. Thank you in advance and thank you for playing our game!
  • Fun & Quick - can get repetitive

Super fun and games go quick. You can easily mess up words with the flick of a thumb, and repeated letter patterns are common creating the spelling of the same or similar words over and over. Fun for now but don’t know about longevity of the game with very limited word list.

Update: suggested setting to confirm merger only creates the same issues but makes the game more awkward. Acceptance of abbreviations and vowel and consonant blends as complete words is silly when words like fetish are not permitted. Deleted app, fun while it lasted.

Hi! Thank you for your review. If you are having trouble with accidental merges (or with 'fast fingers'), you can always try to enable the 'Merge Confirm' option in the Settings. This allows for an additional confirm / decline option after every merge. Stay tuned for more features and game modes in the future! Thank you once again.
  • Dictionary is lacking

The game is very fun, but the fun often comes crashing down when met with the poor dictionary used, along with its censoring of various words. The game starts to become less about making a word and more about anticipating whether the word will be accepted. A built in method of submitting words for review and possible addition would help.

    Developer Response

Hi! Thank you for your review. We acknowledge that the wordlist can be a tricky element of the game and we don't want players to be constantly tip-toe-ing around it. Next to working on the lists on a daily base, we've also recently implemented a 'Word Lookup' function that allows players to quickly check the validity of words (without having to 'create' them in game). Hopefully this will take away some of the experienced frustration. The Word Lookup feature will be available in the upcoming update! Your suggestion of an in-game report mechanism is also being researched. We hope to implement that feature as well in the near future, but we unfortunately don't have a planned date for that one yet. So stay tuned! Thank you for playing!
  • Meh!

As much as I love word games, the blank tiles ruin the game. They do not, as the instructions say, automatically create a word, there is no way to change what they represent once they give you an “option,” and a computer is not a mind reader so the game has no idea where I am going with using the blank tile.

Looks like it has the bones of a fun game but not there yet.

Now, how do I turn off the online game? Not everything has to be social!

    Developer Response

Hi, thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing an issue with the blank tiles. As we are certain that the blank tiles currently work as intended and that they are 100% dynamic and will change once a valid word can be made, we are curious to see what your exact situation is. Perhaps we can have a look together. Please contact us through info@wordsinprogressthegame.com with your use-case. We are happy to help you out! You can always read more on how the blank tiles exactly work here: https://www.wordsinprogressthegame.com/frequently-asked-questions/#toggle-id-3 The game supports 2 offline game modes: Practice and Endless. For both these modes you don't need to play online or have an online connection. If you want to remove your online profile, you can always do so through the Settings > Second Tab > Gameplay Content. Thank you again for your review and for playing.
  • Won't let me play on my Mac

This is a good game, but rather than play on my tiny phone, I want to play on my Mac desktop. I'm stopped from playing the Daily Challenge because it says my Screen Time settings prevent me from multi-player games. I can find no such settings in Screen Time. I have searched throughout all System Preferences and find no settting that is preventing me from playing the Daily Words In Progress on my Mac.

    Developer Response

Hi! We are sorry to hear that you are encountering issues with Screen Time. As this is a macOS related issue we are not 100% sure how to easily provide you with a solution. However, the following steps should perhaps offer some insight: You can edit your Screen Time settings for online games through: Screen Time > Content & Privacy > Content Restrictions > Scroll Down > Multiplayer Games. Try changing some of these values and the game should hopefully let you play online again. You can also try out some of the various Game Center values (within the same screen). If this doesn't work please let us know. You can always contact us through info@wordsinprogressthegame.com. We are happy to help you out. Thank you for your review and for playing the game!
  • Really Fun

This is a great word game, and I find myself playing it multiple times daily. At any time you can play a game against a rando, and the daily challenge is a fun thing to look forward to. The endless mode is tough but enjoyable.

I wrote the developer to request a feature and they wrote back to let me know they’d be implementing it in the next update (which just came out with the new feature). How cool!

Apps like this are why I continue to pay for Apple Arcade.

Thank you so much for your praise. We hope you enjoy the game!
  • I like it BUT ...

I like this game very much but what I do NOT like is that sometimes when dragging the letters to form words if I move my mouse the wrong way or lose conttrol of my movement, the letter attaches to another one that I did NOT want and there is no way of fixing it. I've also managed to drag a perfectly good word with lots of points next to another letter at the top accidentally and then ended up having to discard the word altogether. It just seems to me that there should be an "undo" button somewhere. It's the one thing about this game that drives me crazy.

    Developer Response

Hi! Thank you for your review. We agree that the impact of a simple misclick or early release can be very harsh. Therefore we've worked on a 'Merge Confirm' feature that can be toggled in the Settings. This feature allows players to 'confirm' every tile merge manually, so accidental merges or act-before-you-think merges can be either confirmed or reverted. The 'Merge Confirm' feature will roll out in our next (soon!) coming update, so stay tuned! We've also improved the responsiveness of the mouse-input on macOS in the upcoming update, so all Mac players should profit from more control over their mouse-input from the next update on! Thank you again for your review and for playing our game.
  • Love the game, one small suggestion

I don’t normally leave reviews, but I hope this will be seen. The game is great, I love it. It’s quick to get through games with others, the daily is quick, and endless allows me to come and go. It can be frustrating when certain letters just don’t show up in a set, but that’s the nature of the game and not a knock.

My suggestion relates to the dragging of words to the top for scoring. On more than a couple occasions I’ve been dragging a word up for scoring and my finger slips or phone doesn’t register fully and I combine a great word with a letter or set of letters that ruins the word. I understand and “undo” button would kind of ruin the point, but if there is anyway to address accidentally combing a word like “suspecting” with the letters “ye” when dragging to score, it would be amazing. I know I’m not the only one, and perhaps there is no good fix, but felt like a good suggestion.

  • Can’t get past the title screen

I was really excited to have another word game to try, but I can’t even make it past the title screen! I keep receiving an authentication error (101) that causes the game to reload, only to give the error again. It’s an endless loop that I can’t get out of, and it won’t even let me access the game’s settings to seek direct support. My phone and app are both up to date, and I’ve exited and re-entered the app several times. I even tried to delete and reinstall the app, and it STILL is giving me that error.

I’m super disappointed, and wish that the app was more solid. It sounds like there are so many good comments about the game, but that hasn’t been my experience as I can’t even get ti a point that’ll let me play. Hope something changes in the future!

Hi! We are currently aware of an issue where a broken Game Center state can cause issues with the login and we've already put a fix into place for the next update. Our apologies! You can hopefully fix this issue your self for now by logging out of Game Center (Settings App > Game Center) and log back in. This should resolve the login issue. More help can be found here: https://www.wordsinprogressthegame.com/frequently-asked-questions/#toggle-id-6 We hope this solves your technical problems. Thank you for your feedback and have fun playing!
