Reviews of Stockpile

  • Recent (August 2023) update broke the app!!

I love how easy it is to use this app for simple investing, and I’ve been using it for about 1.5 years. I have not been happy with many of the app/UI changes.
    1. First, they took away the sorting of stocks I own by date first purchased. I liked that because the order doesn’t change and easier to find my specific stocks. Current sort options (price, holdings, and daily change by $ or %) change continually so I take more time looking for specific stocks at a glance.
    2. Next, a change to the chart over time tracking made it impossible to know how my stocks are REALLY doing… Purchases of stocks are included in the % change showing up. What this means is that even though my portfolio is down since I started, mostly 1000+% growth is showing over timeframes like 1 year and all time, which is only due to my recurring investments.
    3. The change one week ago broke my app! No detail pages for individual stocks are showing up, just white screen trying to load. This makes it impossible for me to tap the Buy button to use the available funds from my twice monthly transfer, or to read the news/research on each of these, or track an individual stock/investment.
  • No longer worth it :(

I bought my nephew a 25$ gift card stock in apple in 2019 to introduce him to the stock market. For those who know anything about apple in the past few years it is not surprising to you his investment grew quickly and was sold for a value of 40$, this money was then reinvested ect. Ect. HOWEVER stockpile decided to introduce a 5$ monthly fee and his account quickly dropped from $40 to 20$ all while his portfolio was INCREASING! Considering one of stockpiles only perks was giving small gift cards to get young people started in the market, this $5 fee can be crippling to most young in eaters (especially >18 seeing they likely are not investing over $100, so they will see a 5% loss every month). Not to mention the other drawbacks, mainly not conducting sell orders until 2 days after at the close of the market. And this window could be the difference between a 10% increase in value and a 2% increase. 2 days is a lot of time in the market! I was origanally impressed and looked passed the drawbacks of not being able to sell instantly for the benefit that it was extremely easy for my nephew (then 15) to set up an account and learn how to buy and sell stock. However I would not recommend to STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM STOCKPILE AS YOY CAN especially for younger investors or new in eaters who want to start out with only a small amount of capitol.

Hi there, We apologize for the inconvenience this situation has caused. If you need assistance with your account, please reach out to our team at support@stockpile.com. Thank you, The Stockpile Team
  • Bring back WEB!! APP IS TERRIBLE

They Forced everyone to integrate to this app, which still has you logging in by email, not even individualized device authentication like robinhood, and they offer no customizable experience, no way to get notifications (everything literally still comes by email. What’s the point of forcing everyone to use a device-specific, push-notification based medium, and utilizing absolutely nothing that the modern smartphone app has to offer) and you can’t even hover or hold down over your stock value timeline to see what your value was at a specific point. You have to do a x-y axis line analysis just to get basic information THAT WAS EASILY AVAILABLE ON THE WEB VERSION. I get it, money is tight, but whoever thought that keeping the app over the desktop platform was a good idea should have their salary cut, and the savings from that can be reallocated to building an app that’s significantly more useful. Its almost 2023, why do I have an app on my phone that feels like it launched at the dawn of the app store and stopped receiving updates in 2010. Do BETTER.

    Developer Response

We understand how frustrating it can be to receive a charge you weren’t expecting. It wasn’t our intent to catch you off guard with these fees. We made multiple attempts over the past months to notify users of this transition including emails, banners, and app popup screens. If you need assistance, please email support@stockpile.com.
