  • A book would be better

There wasn't much description of this app when I downloaded it, but for $3 I took a chance.
The app has profiles of about 100 points of interest along Rte. 66 in 8 states: IL, MO, KS, OK, TX, NM, AZ and CA. Each includes a photo and a description (most of the ones I checked are copied verbatim from Wikipedia, with the source cited). There is also a link to the website for the place and a link to GPS. However, the GPS is standard, it won't follow Rte. 66 if there's a faster way via the interstate, which is what I was looking for in an app.
There is also an interactive map that has a line tracing Route 66 with flags that open photos of the places of interest covered in the app. You can zoom in and out and turn the map. However, the road names along Route 66 change, particularly in large towns and cities. Not only is there no information on these name changes, the line on the map often obscures these alternate names and I think it would be difficult to use on a smartphone screen, especially while driving.
As a reference and overview of notable sites along Route 66, this app might be worthwhile at this price point. But If you're planning a Route 66 trip, I'd recommend spending a bit more and buying the guidebook published by Moon, "Route 66 Road Trip" by Candace Taylor. It includes a lot more sites, maps, and step-by-step directions on following the Route 66.

  • Very useful

Much improved since the recent update.
  • Eddie

    Terrible
Should be a 99 cent app
  • Don't Purchase

Did searches to find an app to help plan a Route 66 end-to-end starting in Chicago to Santa Monica. This app doesn't even recognize any location in Chicago, it mostly has various points of interest along the way. You can't open the map to see how this app takes you across Route 66, another .99 app at least lets you see their map with the entire route. The other app also has points makes at the start of Route 66 & along the entire route to describe alternatives.
We can't map the route and plan our trip with this app. It only took 7 minutes of attempts after purchasing this app to realize $2.99 was wasted.

  • Where in the World Are We?!

My fiancé and I purchased the app to take the historic route from St. Louis to Chicago. To start out with, the app lacks the desired locations we wanted to stop at throughout Illinois. Plus, it didn't even have any stops in Chicago. The app got us halfway up Illinois and then had nothing. You cannot navigate the map without having a desired location... So pretty much half way throughout the trip, we were screwed. The app's navigation is terrible as well. If you travel at fast speeds, it cannot keep up and it crashes. It also does not reroute you if you take a different turn. It was a very disappointing purchase. We were hoping it'd make our trip easier, but it frustrated us... Plus, it was a wasted $3. Don't do it.

  • Incomplete

I don't understand why I can't start in Chicago. I can only initiate a map in the Bloomington normal area of Illinois, which is halfway down state
  • Lacks Substance

    Don't waste your money.
  • Better than a map

Took me right to what I wanted to see. The navigation feature works great and makes it easy to get where you want to go.
  • Cool App

Was an easy way to find lots of weird roadside attractions. Worth a download.
