Needs a Next Lesson Button

This app has so much potential but severely lacks fluidity. You can’t just click next while inside a lesson to go to the next in the series. You have to back out to the top level and then go into the next. This is even worse when you star a lesson as you’ll only see that one lesson in your favorites and no way to get to the rest of the series. I’m still in my trial phase, and I’m kinda thinking this will be a deal breaker for me. I would gladly pay for this app because it does have a lot of powerful tools, but it’s too much of a hassle to use. I feel claustrophobic trying to navigate and find my lessons.

Excellent!!!

I don’t often submit reviews, but this is the best app I’ve found for studying Chinese. The developers have thought of everything, and I’m blown away by the quality of the content, user interface and functionality. I like studying traditional characters vs simplified, and they have both options available. I also love listening to the stories like a podcast, and being able to read Chinese and see the English translations simultaneously. And the quality of the narration and variety of subject material s excellent. So happy I found this app!!

A total joy.

Beautifully made app. I’ve used it most days (10-60mins) for 26 months. They have taken everything lingQ does and done it 10 times better (I still love lingQ but there is a huge gulf in quality between the 2 if your learning chinese). The app is highly organised, the voice acting is compelling and engaging, the stories are emotive and it’s easy and quick to use. It feels to me like no corners have been cut. The synchronisation between the voice and the text is genuinely flawless. The features are perfectly done (voice speed, pinyin, translation etc). The are some fantastic extra bits and pieces like the listen only option. It’s almost astonishing that this app is not synonymous with learning chinese for english speakers. I would even go as far as saying this app is a reason to pick chinese over something else. It shows that even if you manage to make something absolutely brilliant, people still may take a while to catch on. This app should be the first thing you hear about when you start learning chinese.

Love It So Much

This is the best all in one tool for learning Chinese in a fun and interesting way!

Great Chinese language App

I wish I had this back in 2010 when first learning Chinese! App programs have developed so well, they all add something useful. But not all Apps are created equal or do something unique. That’s why I rate Du Chinese App so highly. It reinforces the learning level accurately, so you don’t become frustrated. But it is also rather clever in that it gently increases your language range each lesson while remaining connected to HSK language lists. Best of all, in my opinion, it teaches you Chinese language and aspects of modern Chinese culture by osmosis. As an adult learner I’ve been impressed that the storylines include adult theme discussions, teaching me contemporary relevant discourse even though the HSK word level might still be in the HSK 1 to 4 range. That’s really helpful as an older learner. Direct export word lists to PLECO is helpful as I always use PLECO for studying deeper meaning of characters. This App is totally worth the money. Well done Du Chinese team. No matter your HSK level, this app can cater for your learning of Chinese and remind you of SVO set patterns (I always forget this discipline when I ramble out my spoken Chinese).

Interesting texts with new suggestions every day!

Love this app! It’s easy to stay on top of studying. I like the feature that lets you press a word to see the definition and/or save it for later. You can also turn on pinyin for hard words only, so you can try to actively recall most words (instead of relying on pinyin).

Great tool for learning!

This app is incredible for practicing and improving your listening comprehension, reading skills, vocabulary, and well suited for many proficiency levels. I have enjoyed the app for free for a long while and am now wanting to purchase their membership because of what a great resource it as been so far. I fully recommend any Chinese language learners to give this one a shot!

Best app for Chinese

I have used a lot of apps for learning Chinese and I think that this is the best resource for learning Chinese. The app has hundred of short stories that you can read through at leisure written in varying levels of experience. Some of the stories are actually pretty funny, and some are shortened versions of famous Chinese stories that are integral into Chinese culture.

I would recommend simultaneously using another app to learn grammar when you first start with DuChinese, as DuChinese doesn’t have set grammar lesson plans for beginners. But after you get a basic understanding of Chinese grammar you can switch to just DuChinese.

I love DuChinese! I find the stories pretty entertaining and I have definitely noticed my Chinese improving. I would absolutely recommend this app to anyone who wants to learn Chinese!

Thank You!

DuChinese is my most used reading app, even more than my kindle. I use it very frequently throughout the day. I really like the ability to listen and follow the highlighted text when reading. When in a place I can’t listen, I can practice just reading.
I really appreciate your work on this app🙏🙏

Great app - premium subscription too expensive

This app is great for mandarin learners of all skill levels. Tonnes of different stories to read and the ability to save words is awesome. A lot of stories are behind a very high paywall which is a shame, please consider lowering the subscription fee.
