Poor quality of the app

Is letting this system down.
1) When creating a timer unable to select devices, ditto events
2) data on iPad differs from that on iPhone. I have two heating devices, on the iPhone they appear in their respective rooms but on the iPad only one room shows a heating device.

Update: getting better. Dear developer there is a function in the api which allows you to link a thermostat which say controls a zone to a thermostat that controls the boiler, which is very useful since you can only link one thermostat to the boiler control. At the moment I have written a program that does for me. Would be good if you could add this feature to the app.

New app somehow worse

I wrote this when they first updated, it’s got a bit better but not much has changed. Most notably it seems to now completely ignore commands if I’m not connected to the same WiFi network as the controller, so I’m watching my home on my nest cam, I can see a light has been left on but can’t switch it off. Wonderful.

Lightwaverf, please read your customer feedback. You new app looks better but often has huge delays now, particularly on start up, and it even then it seems to take much longer to adjust my lights around my home. It really is often much quicker to just get up and use the light switch, which completely defeats the point. Luckily I inherited my system from the previous owner but I’d be furious if I’d paid serious money for this.

Response from developer

Hi Sorry to hear about this have you tried contacting the technical support team , here is the link our website https://support.lightwaverf.com/hc/en-us/requests/new or if you prefer here is the phone number 0121 250 3625

Each new version worse then the previous

I appreciate that with each new iOS version, app builders have to adopt new restraints but over the years I have been using this app, it has, in my opinion, been getting progressively worse.
Latest annoyance is lack of feedback as to whether an instruction has been sent, received or attacked upon.
A lot of failed instructions seem to be because, now, for some reason, the app forgets I have logged in and just doesn’t mention the fact at all.
I also preferred the interface a few versions ago... it was less cluttered, easier to use and - gosh darn it - nicer.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix - oooops, too late.

Unintuitive app - badly needs in-app help

UPDATE FOR LATEST VERSION: Some improvement in the way the app works, for example dawn and dusk times are now actually correct! However the app no longer seems to retain my login details as I am now every time I want to change or pause/un-pause a timer I have to log in again. 5/10 for the update 😠

I don't often write reviews but felt I needed to for this app. The Lightwave product line is a good concept and apparently very flexible although so far i have only installed one electric switch. The real problem I am finding only after trying to set up this one switch with a schedule is that the app is just not intuitive. If I was more unkind I would say it was downright confusing. And this is an upgrade on previous apps!! Have the developers used any customer feedback??

Having said all that, it wouldn't have been soooo bad if the app had some reasonable help options but it doesn't. Come on Lightwave, if you continue to produce apps like this you will lose your customers!!

Ok software and products

The products are easy to install and configure, however after the latest update my heating schedule stopped working and had the set point changed to 27 & I am unable to re-link it to the hub. As a result I had to change the schedule in the actual thermostat. Are there some communications bugs that have been introduced with the latest upgrade in the app? This should be the same as before and should remain solid even after display and functionality tweaks. I think prior to any new updates the software should be throughly tested as it is trivial to have a working system and also users could be communicated in a better way in case there has been a mistake. What good is it to be able to add photos or dusk and dawn functions, when the app is struggling in the setup process and communications to some units? I have enjoyed to use lightwaverf for the past 3 years. Old ladies are not that techie, and will struggle specially if the heating is playing funny or sockets stop responding.
This needs to be fixed as a priority!

Some improvements, but still not as good as the previous version

I like that you can now select the heating state ( frost, away, running etc), however sometimes when trying to change state or temperature settings from remote it does not do anything which is really frustrating and the main reason for the system to be able to allow you to control your temperature from anywhere. Room pictures have gone and the icon for selecting pictures on the rhs of the screen does not work. The useful feedback message in the previous version has also gone, so you don't know if request has been accepted or not.
Earlier version was much more reliable and easier to use with many more features, not sure why you have taken a step backwards?

Getting worse by the day.

I’ve had this system 4 years. Unfortunately this app gets worse by the day. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app twice in the last week. I’ve seen lights working, then not working, then working again; all without making a single change to them. The login page keeps coming up despite the apparent fix. I’m looking at Gen2 replacements and expansion. However, given how poor this software is and the frustration this system is causing me/ other users in my house, LightwaveRF and upgrading to Gen2 is losing its appeal with each poor, badly tested release.

Lightwave products

I find this product truly amazing still after five years it still top in the market for rich features and it always works what people don’t realize is the software has to keep evolving I know people some time expect more but it takes time to get a product right and there is always going to be customers who expect so much more but on a technical stand point it will take time to get it right I’m sure once any faults are logged it won’t take to long for these to be sorted out keep up the good work at Lightwave it reassuring that your products have stood the test of time

What is actually new?

This new app revision looks new but it seems all they have done is fiddle with the surface (different font, different colours) but the same issues still exist - the heating controls, for example. I’m so glad I opted for Honeywell evohome for my heating rather than this system which I just use for electric underfloor heating in one room. It is so unfriendly/unhelpful. Like others, I’ve invested heavily in LightwaveRF hardware so it’s difficult to go back. But if you think this software is bad, take a look at the Lightwave Link Plus offering which looks like is was done by a Year7 student on a Sinclair Spectrum!

Poor software

The lightwaverf hardware product is good. However it is totally let down by the miserable software. This is the second version of their app. Their original version had problems and the new version was much awaited. Unfortunately it seems that they used the same software team, because they have come up with something that is no better. It looks a little slicker, but it is just as unreliable and poorly designed. It's amazing that a company can have a decent hardware product yet fail to invest in decent software engineers. I have a sizeable investment in lightwave hardware products so I am reluctant to admits defeat, but the software is bad enough that it probably necessary. I still have events/timers that don't work reliable or take a very long time. It's a combination of poorly designed and poorly implemented software. By contrast we have the hive system to control our house heating - that's much better software.
