Description of Lap Counter

This is a great simple app for those of you that do not have access to wifi while running. Use this app for those times you find yourself running laps on an inside track with no GPS signal. All that concrete and metal will cause your iPhone to stop tracking your run. This app allows you to track your laps. We use it all the time, as the indoor track we belong to, will not allow our standard running app to work inside (to much metal and concrete). The app will calculate the number of laps required to meet your goal. You simply input the length of the lap (track, course, pool, etc.) and how far you'd like to go that day. The app takes care of the rest. You can also input your goal manually. Our app allows you to visualize your goal with a beautiful circular percentage bar completed. As you register each lap, the user is required to tap and push on the screen for 2 seconds, to avoid false laps. This allows you to fumble with your iPhone when running, and when ready, click and push on the screen. Your phone will vibrate and send a soft sound to indicate the lap was successfully recorded. Total lap time is also tracked. Email the results to you or anyone else for reference. It's a wonderful little app that we hope you find useful for those times when your standard running app, just doesn't work right.

Reviews of Lap Counter

  • It does indeed count laps

It works very well at counting laps - you have to touch the screen for 2 seconds so that you don’t do it accidentally, but it’s not awkward to do while running.

It’s handy to be able to set up the number of laps in advance, and see the percentage you’ve completed.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t save any data, such as time per lap or total time. I wouldn’t think it would be that hard to at least keep track of workouts and total times. I’m going to keep looking for an app that does that.
  • Extortion

If there's one thing I won't do, it's to be extorted into paying for an app to continue or see my stats. Nowhere does it indicate that you should buy the app until you're 75% done with your goal. Like the other reviewers that I failed to read before hand, I was 75% through my goal of a 2 THOUSAND Meter SWIM. They want me to stop my swim, dry off, so that the Touch-ID will work, remove my phone from its waterproof case, then purchase your app? I would have paid way more if they weren't so underhanded about it. DELETE!!!! Charge 99 cents for the app like everyone else, or give on free try, but not a partial free try. Deleting this underhanded app right after completing this review.

    Developer Response

Hi SCW1313, Never wanted to think of what I was doing as extortion, but I understand from your end what that might look like. The new version 1.5 (coming soon) will have a disclaimer, warning, message regarding ONLY working up to 75% of any goal the user would like to work towards, before requiring an in-app purchase. I would like to think of it as "try before you buy"... I value your input, and have adjusted the app to better reflect what is happening. Sometimes as a developer, we are so far into the programming that we forget the end result, may not be what all users are expected to experience. Never wanted it to be underhanded, as you say in anyway. Hope you'll rejoin us with the new version. I appreciate your comments. John
  • Great functionality, deceptive marketing

Not what in-app purchases usually means!!! This lap counter is perfect in its simplicity. It is exactly what I need to count and time swimming laps. However, you literally get to 75% of your goal and the program locks. It will not let you continue without making a purchase. This is very unfortunate, as this is the kind of app I would pay a couple bucks for. However, the way that they approached this did nothing except irritate me when I only had 1/4 of my workout to go.

To the developer: in app purchases are supposed to be used to offer additional functionality. If you want to take the approach you are taking, ten there needs to be a warning when the app is first opened to say that you may trial the app through 75% of your initial goal, and then you will need to pay to continue. Deleting app now.

    Developer Response

Puellaluane, Thanks for downloading the app. I've read your concern and agree. While that was never my intention (I always thought folks read the description, but it is rather long)... I have in version 1.5 (coming soon) adjusted a one time pop up screen with instructions that the app will only work up to 75% of your goal. That way, like you say... there is a warning, or message about how the app works... Thanks for your input. It was well noted and I have adjusted per your request. John
