As I get older, I'm always looking for ways to lighten my gear load at gigs. ezTrigger offers a good solution to those who wish to only trigger their kick without carrying extra, bigger equipment. I ordered an iRig knock-off from eBay and installed ezTrigger on my iPhone 6 running IOs 9.3.5. I briefly tested this setup at home using a Sonor Martini 14" kick, a Simmons piezo trigger and a Fender Rumble 40 as a monitor. Everything worked first time and I was able set the sensitivity and tuning with ease. I would recommend this app. However, there are a few "gotchas" that users need to be aware of. First, when I switched into "Airplane" mode for the gig, it rendered the app useless as a single strike would cause the app to jam and repeat at an extremely fast pace. Secondly, after playing a set for 90 minutes, my iPhone battery, which was at 100% when the set started, was almost at 20%. Last, but not least, when the iPhone battery went below 20%, it kicked into "Low Battery" mode which rendered the app useless. In summary, ezTrigger is a good app and I intend to keep using it. But I will carry a iPhone charger with me and plug in the phone when I begin using the app. The "Airplane" mode issue does concern me as I at times get texts and calls during a gig. I'll need to research this item a bit more. One last bit of praise,...I received many comments on how "big" my 14" kick sounded at that gig. I ran ezTrigger into my Fender Rumble 40 (personal monitor) and then from the amp to the soundboard. Worked perfectly. I rated this app as a "4" due to the issues I ran into.
