Description of EZ Trigger

EZ Trigger is a revolutionary tool for drummers -- an app that turns your iOS device into a single-channel drum module, allowing you to trigger a high definition bass drum sample from an acoustic kit in realtime. It's a great way to give your bass drum a boost in the mix without the hassle of miking or a setting up other hardware. Just plug a standard drum trigger into the phone through a guitar interface such as IK Multimedia's iRig 2 and play through a PA, choosing from over 30 great bass drum samples. • Made for live performance • Works with standard piezo drum triggers • Made especially for the iRig 2 guitar interface, works with a variety of interfaces. (for phones without a headphone jack, make sure the interface has an audio out port) • high quality 44.1khz bass drum samples for a range of rock and other styles • Simple setup in seconds *** Check out eztriggerapp.com for more info *** Give your kick some extra kick!!!

  • Could be so much better

Firstly latency is a problem as it’s slow enough to be noticeable. Secondly there is no option to upload your own samples. Latency settings would be really helpful to gain control of your setup. Some fx would be welcome.
  • Crashes easily

I just updated the app and iOS software. The app is functional again (before the update it didn’t work on iOS 11 at all), but it crashes regularly. Repeated fast triggers seem to crash the app. I don’t know why. But I don’t think I’ll use it live (which is the reason I bought it) because it’s just not stable enough.

  • Good Working Product

As I get older, I'm always looking for ways to lighten my gear load at gigs. ezTrigger offers a good solution to those who wish to only trigger their kick without carrying extra, bigger equipment. I ordered an iRig knock-off from eBay and installed ezTrigger on my iPhone 6 running IOs 9.3.5. I briefly tested this setup at home using a Sonor Martini 14" kick, a Simmons piezo trigger and a Fender Rumble 40 as a monitor. Everything worked first time and I was able set the sensitivity and tuning with ease. I would recommend this app. However, there are a few "gotchas" that users need to be aware of. First, when I switched into "Airplane" mode for the gig, it rendered the app useless as a single strike would cause the app to jam and repeat at an extremely fast pace. Secondly, after playing a set for 90 minutes, my iPhone battery, which was at 100% when the set started, was almost at 20%. Last, but not least, when the iPhone battery went below 20%, it kicked into "Low Battery" mode which rendered the app useless. In summary, ezTrigger is a good app and I intend to keep using it. But I will carry a iPhone charger with me and plug in the phone when I begin using the app. The "Airplane" mode issue does concern me as I at times get texts and calls during a gig. I'll need to research this item a bit more. One last bit of praise,...I received many comments on how "big" my 14" kick sounded at that gig. I ran ezTrigger into my Fender Rumble 40 (personal monitor) and then from the amp to the soundboard. Worked perfectly. I rated this app as a "4" due to the issues I ran into.
