  • Idea is good, execution is not great.

When you pay for an app, you expect it to work well. I bought this app to help limit the distractions and to help with focus. The app does this by “hiding” all non essential apps on the phone for a specific time that you can choose. The idea is great. But there are a couple of issues. First, you cannot control which apps are the ones you would like to hide. Not all apps are distractions. It would be great to be able to control which apps are hidden. Second, there are issues with the app working for the specified period of time. For example, I set the timer for an hour. An hour goes by and the apps are still hidden. This is an issue that needs to be addressed.

  • Too Many Locked Features

When I first started using Flipd, I found it incredibly useful. However, I watched over time as they slowly hid more of their features under the premium subscription. At first, I was able to tolerate the changes. For example, the change from unlimited breaks with every Flipd session to only one break allowed without a premium subscription wasn’t too bad for me. I decided that it would be best to take less breaks anyway. However, today it was the last straw. I discovered that all sessions longer than 40 minutes have been locked under the premium subscription. While I used to be able to go a few hours to a whole day at a time, now I can’t even spend an hour in a Flipd session. The only way for me to extend the session would be to constantly start a new one every 40 minutes. This is very inefficient, especially since I use Flipd to help me stay focused on homework for long periods of time. I am finding it increasingly less useful than it was before without upgrading to premium. I am in high school and currently unable to get a premium subscription.

All I ask is for the sessions longer than 40 minutes to be made available for everyone again, or at least the 1 hour and 4 hour sessions. Flipd has been so helpful for me in the past, and I’d hate to lose so much from such a great tool. If you can make these longer sessions available without premium, it would be immensely appreciated. Thanks so much!

  • Freedom

This app was alright when I first downloaded and previously provided the ability to obfuscate apps. Unfortunately, after exiting the session it rearranged all my apps making in difficult to navigate my phone. This feature was useful for limiting distractions. However, recent updates removed this feature and now only has limited sessions that require you to stay in the application.

I enjoy listening to music during my workday and need access to other essential applications. If you're looking for an app that will not interrupt your iOS experience look at the Freedom app, you can essentially configure to block data traffic for social media apps/ non-essential websites. As a young-professional, I need to be able to use my phone but also want to the freedom to limit my distractions. The Freedom application provides this flexibility. I do not recommend using the Flipd app or subscribing to their premium offering, features are severely limited and don't satisfy the use-case your looking to solve.

  • Used to Love This!

I honestly used to use Flipd every day for school, work and reading and made so much progress! I recommended it to my entire family because I was feeling so inspired by all the progress I was making. Recently, Flipd changed all the other modes (like “My Day” “Study” and “Sleep”) to be limited to the paid subscription, leaving the 40 minute option. I was so disappointed that I actually reached out to recommend that they bring back the more flexible modes, and there was an update released the next day that restored the original version. Now, it’s back to the limited paid version. I am still searching for a replacement and I really am so disappointed that they changed it, it was to be the only effective way for me to unplug and get stuff done!

  • Room for Improvement

This app does exactly what it says it does: It hides all downloaded apps and notifications from those apps for the amount of time the user specifies. So far, so good. However, the apps come back arranged in a different order (unless you happen to arrange your apps in quasi-alphabetical order), and there is no way to customize which apps are hidden. For example, I have downloaded an app to help me manage the medications I take, and I don't have access to it while Flipd is doing its thing. On the other hand, I would have an easier time focusing if I did not have access to the iTunes or App store, and those apps are not hidden. So, while it's a good concept, I haven't found it all that useful.

  • WONDERFUL APP

I love this app. If you have a phone addiction, with one click, you can only call and text and nothing else. You can manage how much time you want to block your apps. It’s amazing once I block everything, I feel present and I have to live the moment. I don’t care that sometimes I have to fix the orders of my apps (not all the times) I think might be a bug. However the benefits it gives, cancel out the apps orders and all that. If you need your life back and you need to forget your phone. THIS APP IS FOR YOU!!!

  • Great App, A Few Suggestions

I don’t comment often but I really do love this app. It’s simple, useful, and efficient when it comes to helping me stay on task. However, there are a couple of things that I’d absolutely love to see in the next updates, and both have to do with (generally) the same thing. One: it would be great if we could choose which apps are allowed while we’re ‘Flipd’ off. There are a few apps that I need to use while studying, like Desmos, Google Classroom and similar apps. Two: the same goes for the ‘Full Lock Mode.’ I love the idea of it, but being able to keep select apps would be amazing. These two things are the only reasons I’m not using the app every time I study. Again, great app, and I hope you guys keep my ideas in mind :)

  • Scared

So I downloaded this to try to use it while I was studying. I set a 30 minute timer and I was left with just Apple apps. This thing scared me. It like you download it self and I couldn’t get my apps back, I was so scared and I spent my studying time figuring out how to disable it without the app. If this out go to settings and remove its access profile. Trust me this got my apps back. Don’t try shutting/powering it off that doesn’t help (I tried that twice.) I will try this app again and if it works I will raise my review to a 5 if it works and the company responds to me. If the company doesn’t respond my review stays a 1.

*edit* I tried this again and the app didn’t show up it disappeared when I did the full lock down the app Flipid disappeared and I couldn’t get out of full lock down so one again I had to go to settings and remove the management. I don’t have time to do this every time I go in lock down. Also I think the price is too much it should be the price of 1 month forever and I think that doing the custom times should be free. Also the developers are slow they still haven’t responded and it’s been a couple of days. I’m at the point where I’m going to delete this app. It’s not worth any more of my time.

Thanks for taking the time to leave this review! To provide more context to other readers, the full lock feature is no longer offered in Flipd as of January 2020, but that feature can be found in our other app, Focus Lock. Please be sure you're downloading Focus Lock if you're looking for the feature to hide your apps, as it's not offered in Flipd.
  • Probably as good as full lock can get given iOS limitations

(I was looking for an app that could achieve a true lock down of non-essential apps. I only tried the 5 minute lock down on this app once, and haven’t used the app since.) As many others have said, full lock is an excellent idea but not great in execution. Others complained about the apps being out of order - that was fine for me. What I can’t live with is having my notification settings reset every time I get back from lock mode. I assume this is how the app works: they achieve lock mode by uninstalling and reinstalling all of your applications. The profile you install gives their servers access to control your phone remotely - which is why an internet connection is necessary. However, it seems that the scope of what they can control is limited - most likely due to iOS’s own limitations. The additional script you download seems to be a workaround to reorganize your apps as you had before, but it doesn’t restore your notification preferences on the apps that were un/reinstalled. Your apps give you the “allow notifications” pop-up next time you go into each of them. If you are OK with default notification settings, maybe this is a limitation you can live with. I customize the notifications for each app and I am not willing to readjust those every time I use lock down.

  • Could be great—see below

I have two major problems with this app. First, after full-lock mode ends, I need to manually allow notifications for each and every app AGAIN. Can you imagine trying to do pomodoro with this? Second, how about the people who try to skirt the system (myself included)? Let’s be real, if you need full-lock, you also need a foolproof way to be locked out. I can break this lock by going into settings and removing the permissions I granted to go into full-lock mode. This may seem petty but imagine working on something with a deep work session that lasts 4 hours and then realizing you needed to do something on your phone midway through—completely destroys the purpose of this app
