Price History of Modern Classics

Description of Modern Classics

Modern Classics is the first independent, critical assessment of the original drinks of these recent decades, compiled by New York Times drinks writer, journalist and author Robert Simonson. This brutally honest collection identifies, justifies and presents the authoritative, verified and properly attributed recipes in four categories: the modern classics, the objectively popular drinks that might yet achieve that status, certain drinks identified as critical favorites worthy of more attention, plus a collection of foundational recipes from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s that helped set the stage for today’s cocktail renaissance. - over 110 meticulously researched recipes—full list of included recipes available on web site—to be gradually expanded in the future, as appropriate - The best of the best - Search recipes by base spirit, cocktail-type and date of creation - Check off the ingredients you’ve got and this app will show you which drinks you can make - Filter the recipes on multiple criteria with just a few taps - Flag recipes and tag favorites; create custom lists of recipes - Annotate recipes with comments and cumulative likes and dislikes and build up a chronological history of your explorations - Ingredient definitions included - Sync your ingredient inventory, favorites and flagged, custom lists and journal entries across our entire suite of apps and over as many iOS devices as you like, using our free sync service - Universal app, works nearly identically on both platforms Please enjoy responsibly.

Reviews of Modern Classics

Leave a Review Modern Classics
  • Excellent reference

Easy to use. Has an amazingly curated selection of wonderful drinks.
  • Waste of money

$9.99 for 113 cocktails-many with ingredients no bar stocks. Waste of money. I feel tricked by the reviews. Don’t buy this when there are many other free and much more helpful cocktail apps.

    Developer Response

Sorry you were disappointed, but we hope you’ll give the app another chance. These drinks do, in fact, use ingredients common to cocktail bars—they simply couldn’t have become modern classics any other way. Moreover, the app is quite sophisticated about helping you match ingredients (viable substitutions) to recipes. What we don’t do is dumb anything down or compromise the accuracy of the recipes. This app is the gold standard, but you do have to meet us partway. There are a tutorial videos on our web site that might be helpful.
  • Lame

For $10, this should contain more than 113 recipes, none of which contain vermouth.

    Developer Response

Nine recipes contain sweet vermouth, two contain dry. This app is laser-focused on quality, not quantity. This is an amazing collection of the best recipes of the last twenty years, verified with their creators, with correct attributions, and documented with great care. Hopefully, you’ll give the app another shot.
