Good app

It’s useful to see where is sunny so you can go to those places. Apple weather and other weather apps are not specific to towns/lakes ect and you only know the weather for the whole island, spot Azores allows you to see this.

Recommended by locals

This app was recommended by locals to find sunshine due to the dynamic microclimates of Sao Miguel. Very glad I used it during my stay.

Not working

Have been trying to use it for 1
Week and keep getting an app error.

Great app and very useful when visiting the Azores

This is a great app and I like the new format.

Response from developer

Hello Bren, we are truly sorry for your issue and are actively working to solve this. If your issue was not solved with the 2.0.1 update, it will likely be resolved by the upcoming 2.0.2 update. You can always reach us at geral@spotazores.com with your concerns and can always request a refund for your subscription via the App Store.

My thoughts after the July 2020 update.

While it does have some nice new features, in my opinion there are 7 things that could be fixed/corrected/added to make it a much better app.

1. I had a paid subscription from before the app was updated in July 2020. My previous subscription removed all the annoying banners/ads from the old app. After using the “restore previous subscription purchase” option after updating the app recently, and it saying that my subscription was restored, and all the ads would now be removed from the app there are STILL annoying google ads. I tried turning off/on my iPhone and iPad to see it that would reset things, and I also tried forcefully closing the app and restarting it, but the ads keep showing up. It worked before the update in the old version of the app, but it’s “broken” now. After having to pay again for a subscription ($3.49/yr), which is more than the price I originally paid (which was only $1.99/yr), the ads now seem to be gone. I shouldn’t of had to pay again for something I had already paid for previously.

2. Some of the cameras are not pointed that well. Some have more sky in it than actual ground area. Please review the camera views and try to get some of them moved/pointed lower to show more of what’s happening on the ground/beach/towns.

3. The wide angle Ponta Delgada city view is now gone. The only one left is the one facing west towards the cruise ship dock area. The old one that faced east from the city gates area (located high on the arcade building), was a much better camera location, because evening sunsets didn’t really affect the camera’s lens, and allowed for a nice clear wider angle view of the downtown marina area as it got darker later at night.

4. Come on Spot Açores, it’s 2020, and we need real streaming videos of these locations (at least from some of more popular/busy locations). Having only still images, or “one still image every 5 seconds” is not good enough. Please updated the stream so it’s continuous like other camera’s around the world. Small outdoor HD webcams have become very affordable, so please use them.

5. Some of the camera locations are placed so they are pointing westward. While this helps in the morning as the sun comes up in the east... it can become really bad in the afternoon as the sun starts to set in the west. The camera’s lens gets affected by the sun as it gets lower in the sky, making it harder and harder to actually see what the camera is pointed at. Lowering the camera’s lens angle a bit more, adding a polarizing filter to the lens, or simply adding a sun shield/cover to the front of the camera to help shade their lens from the sun, are all things that would help in reducing annoying lens flare.

6. In my humble opinion, the most popular location in all of the islands, is the main city gates on Ponta Delgada (the Portas da Cidade). Everyone that visits that island wants to see it and take a picture standing in front of them. It would be nice to have a wide angle view of that downtown area. Placing a webcam high on a pole or light post, south of the city gates (near the Avenida/water), would be an ideal spot to view what’s happing around the downtown core. It would also look nice when the downtown core is lit up at night. Please consider adding this wide angle camera view location, because it will be a very popular one to look at.

7. And finally, please add the ability to “send/cast” the webcam’s video to a regular tv screen, by adding a “screencast” button to each webcam window. While the video size is ok on a 10” iPad, it would look much nicer on a huge 50”+ sized tv so that more people can watch it.

These are some of the things I’ve found that could be improved/corrected. If I find anything else that could be improved, I’ll be sure to come back here to update my review and rating.

Kinda regards,

Response from developer

Hello and thank you for your feedback. We are sorry for the issue with the subscription, it was a bug that has since been fixed. Please update the app to version 2.0.1, cancel your new subscription and ask for a refund and then try re-subscribing to the old subscription within the App Store subscription management options of your iOS device. It should work as expected. If not, please get in touch with us at geral@spotazores.com and we will help you with this. Regarding all the other suggestions, they will be taken into consideration.

Ads

Nice app, but paid for subscription and the ads still pop up. No way to contact anyone for support.

Ads too frequent

This would be a useful app except that ads pop up every 10-20 seconds. It’s practically unusable. I would be happy to have the ads if the frequency was increased between showing them. As soon as I close one, I only have time to look at maybe one camera before another opens. Very annoying.

FULL OF ADS

Useful app but be prepared to see video ads pop up every time you select a point of interest. Every time. The same ad, over and over. Ridiculous.

Aggressive Ad's

Aggressive and repetitive adverts (one, every 10 seconds) forcing you to pay for the possibility to get rid of it.. well this how people making money nowadays.. Love the app btw.

To many adds

Its almost impossible to look at any cameras.
The adds keeping coming up every 5 seconds.
