Malvern Thrills

Recently moved to the area and wanted to take up walking the Malvern Hills. Found this app and it’s perfect for our needs. Hoping to complete all the walks on the list and love that it has little snippets of information on the points of interest as you are on the walk so we are learning as we go.

Response from developer

Thank you for your feedback. Always good to know the app continues to help people to explore the area.

Great App

First time visiting Malvern. I wish all places had apps like this as it made it so easy to find a walk that suited us. We did the 7 mile hills and valleys walk and we’d never have been able to do that without the app.

Response from developer

Many thanks for your excellent feedback. Good to hear the app has helped you explore this beautiful part of the country.

Basic but effective

Really helped navigate the End to End walk and avoid getting lost, thank you!

Response from developer

Thank you for your feedback and very pleased the app assisted in navigating this quite challenging walk.

Repeatedly needing to download maps

The information and graphics are superb. I was so pleased initially. I scored this 3 because it might be me or the settings on my phone, if it wasn’t me I’d have scored it 1 because it was utterly useless on the day ☹️.

I downloaded the map I wanted and we started on our walk, everything good for the first 10 mins. The phone screen had gone blank because I hadn’t looked at it for that time. Unlocked the phone and the app had gone back to the Home Screen. Clicked on the wall we wanted again. It wanted to download again. Annoying, but okay.

Needless to say this became the theme of the walk. If I kept the phone on then everything was okay, but I couldn’t possibly do that for 3 hours. For most of the walk we barely had 3G and it took well over 5 minutes to download the map. For the last quarter of the walk we had no reception at all, got lost and had to walk back via the road.

Shame because otherwise the app seemed good.

Response from developer

Sorry you encountered the problems you describe. Once a walk has been downloaded, the app should not request to download the walk again and trying to do so over 3G would be a pain! Without being there and checking on your phone, cannot really offer any meaningful explanation. Appreciate your feedback on the graphics, thank you.

What a well written App!

Finally an App that was been well thought though with easy photos and walk through… also great for those of us with neurodiverse needs such as dyslexia. Whoever has written this app needs to write more for different places. Well done!

Response from developer

Thank you for your feedback, much appreciated. More apps of a similar design can be explored on brooksdesigns.co.uk. New ones are also under development.

Superb App

The app is very intuitive to use, with excellent directions and lots of useful information along the walk.
Gives your Grid Ref., with battery saving and other options.
First rate, thoroughly recommend!

Response from developer

Thank you for detailed review. Very good to hear that the app is proving such good support for walks in the Teme Valley and Malverns area.

Don’t use this on iPhone

It’s hard to believe that any developer would publish an app like this — even a free one. It doesn’t fit on the screen of an iPhone X: text is truncated on the right and buttons are inaccessible. The notch obscures screen elements. You can’t even pinch to shrink the page so you can see the whole thing. Avoid

Apologies for this Ricardo. This is occurring when running an iPhone X in Zoomed display mode - a feature not originally available on this and other 5.8" display iPhones. This shortcoming will be addressed in the next version release of the app.

So disappointed!

This should be a brilliant app. But I hated it once I started using it for one reason. I used it to get to the start point in the south when driving there for an end-to-end walk. I used the postcode on the app & the given names, & (very limited) directions so that I could park up & set off. When arriving at the postcode supplied by the app, there was no car park. Just an empty private field. Nor was the house there, opposite as suggested. And the building names given by the app were also completely different or non-existent. I ended up driving around for 40 minutes trying to find somewhere to park because the postcode & directions were incorrect. It was simply so irritating that I have now deleted it.

Response from developer

Very sorry you had this bad experience. Navigating using postcodes in rural locations is likely to send you to a place close but not exactly where you need to be. We have now added into the start location information a warning about this along with a What3words location and an OS Grid Reference.

Lovely walking app

Downloaded for my first foray to Malvern Hills when family visited. Clear instructions including photos at each junction with green arrows indicating route. Additional information about points of interest really useful. Would highly recommend if planning on walking in the Malvern area. Turn

Thank you for feedback - much appreciated and good to know the app has been of value in helping you enjoy walks in the area.

What a great app

I normally prefer to use a map but the myriad paths heading up Happy Valley made me wonder which way to get to North Hill. This app fits the bill exactly, with photos of each path junction and an audible warning navigation was simple. Once on the top I switched back to my map but if I’d realised beforehand how good this app was I would have used it for the whole walk to Herefordshire Beacon.
