  • Not Worth Downloading

Cheesy and cluttered. I can't wait for this battle app and its presence in the park to be gone for good.

  • Completely Different App

I originally reviewed the game in October 2016 and enjoyed it for what it was, despite some bugs. As of June 9, 2017, this app is a completely different game and deserves an updated review.

    Summary:
    Pros:
Camera bugs from previous version fixed
    Exciting new mini-games
Battle in real-time with other players
    New character designs
    Customizable avatar
    More options to earn points
    Addicting gameplay
    Tracks objectives over multiple visits

    Cons:
    Location settings required
    Long loading times between games
Large file size requires connecting to Cedar Point's WiFi (which is free)
Confusing instructions (Tip: AR Videos won't register unless the user scans the Battle logo at the bottom left corner of the Battle for Cedar Point posters)

Review: Instead of passively earning points for your team by scanning ride signs and park maps, the new interface is much more involved. Users can create a custom avatar and purchase outfit upgrades using in-game currency that is awarded by completing objectives. Objectives include correctly answering trivia questions, playing minigames, and meeting requirements carried over from the previous version, such as riding a coaster featuring so many inversions, etc. The user also earns energy points by completing these objectives, which are needed to complete the main point of the game.

Instead of scanning ride signs as before, each of the coaster factions have poster displays near and in the ride queues. Upon entering the park, players are encouraged to use the free WiFi and download the AR game and AR video files. Scanning the aforementioned billboards unlocks the games and videos. But the most important game takes place on the battlefield itself. The new battlemap is separated into hexes, similar to the popular strategy game Civilization. Using the energy points earned by the objectives, players can defend their hexes while attacking and conquering those controlled by other teams. The map updates in real time, which can be especially exciting when two players are going head-to-head over the same hex. It is possible to completely dominate the map or even wipe out another team entirely. The day I played, poor Gatekeeper was reduced to a single hext! At the end of the day, players receive a notification to check the battlemap to reveal the winner. As before, teams reset the following day when the park opens.

Final notes: This game is worth getting, especially for coaster enthusiasts and season passholders. Despite long loading times the minigames are fun and the battlemap is exciting and competitive. Customizable avatar is a plus, as is the lack of purchases requiring real money - everything is earned in-game. Even the casual park visitor will find this app entertaining while waiting in queues or resting between rides. Holovis and Cedar Point, you knocked this one out of the park, pun completely intended!
  • Awesome

When I'm waiting in long lines at the park this game is the best thing to do to get rid of the boredom! So much things to do on this app and it really tests my knowledge of the park. Great app keep it up!
  • It looks good but...

I actually live in SC, so I can't play this, so please make a battle for Carowinds
  • Stupid

What they failed to mention is you still have to pay$5.00 for 1 pin at the store at cedar point.
  • Great Fun, Great Experience

I loved Battle for Cedar Point! I really added something to my last visit. I loved the story it came up with and the Valravn comic. The idea is really fun! I loved going to up the dollar coaster signs as I rode them and scanning them. I really hope they add to more it, as not all of the roller coasters can be scanned yet (like Wicked Twister, the wooden coasters) and it'd be great for more content and story line. It reminded me of Pokemon Go a bit. The effects were good. It was a blast playing. I even bought my team of the day's pin (Valravn). Next time I go back, I'm definitely playing again. Loved it!
  • Like Pokemon Go in Cedar Point

It's a fun way to bring Cedar Point to life when you're waiting in line or wandering the park. The augmented reality videos on the coaster signs and t-shirt are cool. Can't wait to go back!
