  • Need to add “telecommute” option on app!

Update 2/10/21: Deleted previous post unrelated to subject.

Update 4/3/2020: Developer took my suggestion and implemented it! Thank you!

Original post: Why doesn’t this app have an option telecommuting question? The PC version of Gohio Commute has this option but this app doesn’t. How am I supposed to track all my carbon-free telecommutes during our offices COVID-19 shutdown?

  • Requires a commuter program

Do not use this app if you’re just looking for a way to track your commute.

From their documentation: “Commute Tracker is a private-network commuter app that requires an account with an established regional, employer, or school-based commuter program in order to use the app.”
  • Improvements!

I’ve been astounded by how much money I have saved thus far by ditching SOVs. The app is easy to use and much improved since the last update.
  • Easy and automatic!

Since the update of the app, everything has been running super smoothly. I love that everything is automatic as I can easily forget about some of the smaller trips I take. Trip tracking is amazing and efficient!
  • Saving CO2 One Walk at a Time

This app makes using it a lot of fun. I love that it shows your CO2 savings from bike and walk commuting.
  • Poor accuracy

I commute daily by bicycle around 7km. One day it says 1.4km, next day 5.2km, day after 3.1km. Emailed support who said, “ we know, nothing we can do. “

We're sorry to hear about your less-than-ideal experience with our app. Unfortunately, in certain situations the lower-accuracy location data some phones provide via low-power GPS tracking can cause these kinds of results. We are constantly working to update our trip detection algorithms to provide the best possible experience on all devices. Our goal is to provide an easy-to-use alternative to active trip-tracking apps that require starting and stopping for each trip and consume more battery life. Again, I apologize that our app did not meet your expectations. Thanks for being a sustainable commuter and we hope that you'll give CommuteTracker a try again in the future.
  • Nice interface, shockingly poor location tracking

I use this Pogo app to track my bike commutes to work as part of an employer-sponsored program. The interface is simple, visually appealing, and fairly straight forward to use. My beef with the app is how tremendously awful the location tracking is. I tell it to expect me to commute at X time from home to work (addresses provided) and it is supposed to detect when I have done commutes and how.

As I commute by ebike i can understand when the app sometimes guesses wrong that I went by car or by motorcycle instead of bike. I don’t understand when it sometimes thinks I did a combo or running/walking. Even more mysterious is when some days it thinks my commute is 8 miles and other days it thinks it is 17, when in fact it is around 11. My Nike running app can track my run to the 0.1km and this app is off by several miles?

Thanks for sharing your feedback about our app, we really appreciate hearing from our users even when your experience hasn't been as stellar as strive for. Commute Tracker works differently than other activity-tracking apps because it runs in the background all the time, not just when you start or stop an activity. Because of this we're always trying to find the perfect balance between location accuracy and battery life. Our primary goal is always detecting when a trip takes place, followed by predicting distance and mode taken. It sounds like in your case those algorithms resulted in sub-par distance and mode consistency, which we recognize can be really frustrating. We're constantly working to improve our tracking algorithms, and we're getting ready to start testing the next generation of that feature. Please reach out to us at help@rideamigos.com and we would be happy to help troubleshoot your issues and see if there are any ways we might be able to improve your experience. Happy Commuting!
  • Seems okay, but missing multimodal completely

My work had me install this to track some of my commute and earn rewards. I not using the automatic commute detection, but the manual one only allows a single trip type. My commutes tend to be bike then bus, so this feels like a big hole.
  • New update doesn’t work

Whatever the new update included, it broke the tracking on the app. The app hasn’t logged a single commute trip I’ve taken since it was updated. I have to log every commute manually in a browser.

  • Pointless with no ability to leverage Strava

Did a test ride from home to work and back....and it logged 'nothing' better to stick to Strava

    Developer Response

Hi! I wanted to follow up on your review because we've released several new versions of our app since you reviewed. Check out the latest version and if you have any issues please contact us at help@rideamigos.com. Our app works a bit differently than Strava in that it offers passive trip detection, so you don't have to start and stop tracking for each trip. However, many of our sites also offer integration with Strava, so you can certainly use whichever you like best for trip tracking and still use our app for participating in rewards and challenges. Happy Commuting!
