I just purchased one of these lights to test as I want to purchase about 30 of these for a building project. The hardware is impressive and the light output outstanding.
I used my iPhone 6s and downloaded the latest Brilliant Spectrum app. This light connects with Bluetooth. It connected quite easily and changing light colours happens instantly. When I tried to play music, the app on the iPhone failed fortunately. My music synced but I couldn’t press the play button to play. It was rather frustrating.
I then used an old Samsung Galaxy S4 my young son inherited from me. I downloaded the Spectrum app and alas my music synced and the lights were changing to the music. The lights do not beat in sync with the beat of a song but the light does change nevertheless. Once you stop or pause a song, so does the light.
I am hoping there’s an update to the app for iPhones but a technician at Brilliant told me not to hold my breath. He did mention that in a couple of months new ‘equivalent’ models were coming out to market in their home automation range. The new ‘spectrum equivalent’ downlight will connect to your phone or network wirelessly not through Bluetooth which means that you will be able to control the lights at home through your app anywhere in the world. Not bad.
