  • Keeps getting better

Lots of recent improvements and keeps getting better. Really an excellent book reader app and the caliber upload is a big help.

Thank you for trying the updated app. Stay tuned for even more improvements later this year.
  • No interaction with any cloud providers…

…tells me all I need to know. Basically they just want to sell you hard drive space by the month. I added an extra star because it’s so polished, but if you’re reading this, find a better app. I know there aren’t many options for epub readers in the App Store, but this just feels like extortion. Prices are not reasonable. Not even an option to add your own fonts! This app needs a lot of work, and a better revenue model.

We provide a full ebook reader and manager with seamless sync with bookmarks, reading progress, highlights and other upcoming collaborative features that requires the use of BookFusions backend (cloud) and is not compatible with third party providers that simply provide only a storage solution. BookFusion will support uploading eBooks and other content from Dropbox, Google Drive and other cloud providers later this year. We are sorry to hear that BookFusion does not meet your needs and hope you find a suitable app for your use case. Enjoy the rest of your day! • Could I view the pictures, charts or maps in detail?

    just like in apple books.
  • Great App!

I'm traveling while going to UNI and this a great app to manage my epub/PDF's. I'm going to keep using it for another week or two and then, if it works well for me, upgrade to the pro membersip. I like to support independent app developers with sustainable business models.
  • Everything I need to read

I use this app heavily and have found it reliable and a joy to work with. The tools for adjusting the appearance of the ebook view are fine grained and allow me to create my ideal view for reading. The fact that the app is also cross-platform and has a web app as well is just gravy. Kudos to the developers for building such a useful tool!

  • Poor communication

Reduced the number of free books from 50 to 25 without any warning or notification. I had to Google to find out what had happened to my other books. I was considering becoming a paid member, but not if this is how they operate.

Update: Changing rating because when I felt less frustrated I thought it was unfair to rate so low when the functionality of the app is very good for what it does. Communication could still be better for people who primarily want to use the app and don’t use the website— I was looking for an alternative to calibre I could use on my phone, and if you are willing to upgrade to the paid version, it would probably be pretty good for that, but at a minimum it would be good to have notices pop up in the app.

  • Note takers beware

I take a lot of notes while reading, and when I have gotten a thought down, half the time I delete it because if you accidentally tap *anywhere* outside of the note—such as the dimmed background outside the note modal dialog, including just below the text box where you might be trying to reposition the cursor—then it doesn’t save your note. You must tap the save button and be careful not to touch anything else or bump your phone, otherwise it’s lost. There is already a cancel button and I can even go delete a note if I regret writing it for some reason. The default should always be to save user input immediately and durably.

This problem is exacerbated when attempting to take notes on a handheld iPad, and multiplied tenfold if you try to use an Apple Pencil to take notes. Good luck with that.

Additionally, I read a lot at night. Every note pops up a non-dark mode keyboard and a bright white modal dialog takes up most of the screen, blinding me and causing me to forget whatever thought I wanted to write down on the highlight I had just made. Seemingly a symptom of lacking any actual dark mode outside the reader theme, as switching to another book at night is also blinding.

It’s a shame how difficult and dangerous it is to take notes, since this is one of the few apps with any kind of note export support (you can get a CSV of highlights and notes from the web app). Until these problems are fixed, I’ll be stuck with Google Play Books 😓

Hi zuwiki, Thank you for trying BookFusion. We are happy to let you know we have resolved one of the critical issues you reported and we look forward to your updated review. Comments/Notes are now durable so they will be saved until you explicitly delete them, this means you will no longer loose what you typed if you accidentally closed the dialog or switch apps. You should still however use the save button to have them saved permanently and synced between all devices. We will be implementing dark mode across the entire app after we release several more updates and features around highlights/notes and annotations. Please reach out to us at support@bookfusion.com if you have any issues or additional feedback.
  • Better than kindle, excellent support

The BookFusion user experience is way better than kindle.

The ability to organize books (via tags, publisher, collection), markup your books (with highlights and notes, which you can access separately), and then synchronize everything between the mobile and desktop apps make this feel like a complete ebook library experience. This is especially important if you plan on adding PDFs and other non-Amazon book formats to your library.

The fact that BF also allows you to sync your Calibre library seamlessly makes this a no brainer decision for an e-reader. (Although, I hope that they provide two-way syncs in the future).

And to top it all off, they have a responsive dev team that is dedicated to fixing issues quickly. I’ve experienced 2 minor bugs that the team addressed in a matter of days. (Although these issues did not take away from the reading experience, it definitely helped settle my OCD…)

Thumbs up to the BF team!

Thank you for the support and kind words!
  • Really nice!

I really like this app. I use it to read on my browser and my iPad or phone. I wish I could see my notes in the highlight section in the iOS version just as I can in the browser version.

    Developer Response

Thank you for using BookFusion. The iOS app will definitely be updated soon to display highlights and notes in the same way as the web app/browser version.
  • Needs work - getting better

This app has potential but has big issues. The worst problem is that it displays pages from fixed layout ePub files (like graphic novels) in the wrong order. This makes it impossible to read them. I also cannot set books as finished. And the reading percentage never goes up. So there are books just stuck at the top of the interface, claiming I’m still reading them.

    - EDIT -
They added categories so I’m happy about that. I see improvements happening which is great. Reading normal ePub files (with reflowable content) works very well.
