Convenient and straightforward

I love a lot of things about this app. You can easily organize recipes with tags and all different categories to make your time in the kitchen easier. You can also email it through the app or print it off if you’d like. The only thing that I would like to make a suggestion of is that, when printing a recipe, it could use some aesthetic upgrades (layouts and image scaling). However, it’s not really that important. What matters is that the information that you want can be accessed so easily.

Thank you for this app!

Great for Echo Show 10

I have my recipes in Paprika which does not have an app for Echo. This app provides an excellent workaround. I can use the source website, which Paprika automatically saves, to import the recipe. This is the easiest and most efficient way to save the recipes to Sous Chef. If I do not have a source website, I can copy and paste the recipe or import multiple recipes (look at the hammer) as text. The AI does an amazing job in sorting the ingredients and directions.

It is easy to make adjustments to a recipe with the edit options. One has to play around a bit to learn all the options. Once you figure it out it’s pretty easy to make changes.

I love that on the Show it does not automatically read each ingredient and step. You can ask it to but no waiting while it does.

This is well worth the cost per year.

Best Recipe App out there!

I’ve tried countless recipe apps over the years but this is by far the best. It is so easy to import recipes from websites or even photos. Easy to edit, easy to create shopping lists, and it works well with echo show. I love this please don’t change it!

Response from developer

Thanks for the review! I made Sous Chef because I’m a cook and a coder and it works how I wanted a recipe app to work. So it won’t be changing anytime soon 😉 Unless it’s to add a feature you (the users) want 👍

All Recipes Disappeared

This app has been great for many months! This morning I opened the app to find all my recipes are gone! I’ve come to heavilyRely on this app. I can’t find a fix for this issue online. I’m so sad I lost all the recipes I saved. Some were family recipes I have no way of getting back 🥺

UPDATE: changed my rating to 5 stars. Grant has helped me fix the issue. Amazing customer service and such a time saving product. I use this instead of copying recipes onto index cards because it can import recipes directly from a blog post. I’ll be a lifetime customer. Thanks Grant!

Hello, We released a new version of the app which means you should just have to sign in again. Your recipes are definitely not gone they are in a secure database. Please email help@souschef.recipes if signing in doesn’t work. Sorry for the confusion! UPDATE: Have you had any luck getting signed in? I just helped someone who forgot she had originally logged in with a family member’s email address to share recipes. Please contact us if you still can’t find your recipes

Great, Simple App

Great work keeping it simple and focusing on getting cross platform connectivity working right. I also love that I can export my recipes for backup “just in case.” And the emails all come from Hal9000@... 😂😎 icing on the cake.

Amazon should buy and perfect

I’ve had my show for about 3 years and I’ve been frustrated that I couldn’t use it for my own recipes. I have tried, multiple times, to view my recipes from my Allrecipes account but it never works.

I believe a lot of people want to use their own recipes or recipes they’ve saved. It would benefit Amazon to make this easy to do on their devices.

I added a recipe in your app using the camera on my phone, added the skill to Alexa, verified my Echo show device, and then asked Echo to ask Sous Chef to show me my recipe and it was there, ingredients on one side and instructions on the other. To close Sous Chef I just asked Echo to show me the Home Screen.

I added another recipe using my camera. Bam. Then I ran into trouble. I used the camera to add, but it wasn’t there. Tried another 3 recipes with the camera. Nope. I was able to add all 3 recipes manually but that’s an unnecessary hassle. Thus, I only gave this rating 4 stars.

My daughters can use the app in their homes and see my recipes. That’s a bonus. Another bonus is the shopping list feature but even cooler is when I’m wandering around the grocery store and decide to make crab cakes tonight, I can easily pull up my recipe on my phone to remember the ingredients.

I think Amazon could make this App their own, perfect it, and sell more Echo shows for kitchens across the country. I seriously considered returning mine but I was too lazy. What I didn’t do was recommend to anyone they buy a Show.

Response from developer

Hello, Thanks for the review, I too wanted to use my own recipes on Alexa devices which is exactly why I made Sous Chef in my free time. FYI I may have fixed the issue with the camera upload. If it doesn’t work again feel free to contact me directly at help@souschef.recipes Cheers, Grant

When recipe is open

This is great to use your own recipes with Show 5. When the recipe is open, Alexa can’t be used for anything else like setting a timer or converting measures. The links to directions are broken, so other than ‘Alexa, tell Sous chef to open ...recipe’, I can’t use the functionality and have to use the touch screen to close the recipe.

Not working

Can’t get the app to pull photos from my saved photos or paste a website. May be outdated with iOS 14.

Response from developer

Hello, The issue with the photo upload has been fixed, thank you for bringing that to our attention! The paste issue is with iOS 14. There is a workaround however. Click into the text box then tap with three fingers, a menu with a paste option should appear at the top of the screen. The app is in the middle of a complete rewrite now otherwise it would be fixed immediately. Thank you for your patience! Please contact help@souschef.recipes directly for help. Cheers, Grant Cheers,

Loved this little app until...

Updated my IOS yesterday to 14 and I can no longer paste to the URL bar to import recipes from the web. Also the address for contact is incorrect.

Response from developer

Hello, I’ll look into this right away and get back to you. Also what address did you try to contact us with and where did you see it? It should be help@souschef.recipes Thanks for the feedback! **UPDATE** I’ve confirmed the issue. Unfortunately I can’t update this version of the app because it’s using outdated technology. I am diligently working on a brand new totally rewritten version of the app that will fix this issue. Note that you can still paste but it’s finicky. After clicking in the text box try tapping on it with three fingers to reveal an edit menu at the top of the screen. Google iOS copy paste gestures for more information. Thank you for your patience!

Needs iPad version

First thing I saw after I installed and launched this on my iPad Pro with keyboard... a sideways screen. How do you expect us to enter recipes this way? Use my phone instead?

<< 11 Sep 2020 >>. Developer contacted me to use a website for input, and a true iPad version is being worked on now. That link seems to work much better. This link should be in the app as well to help us input recipes from any device or desktop computer.

Thanks!

Response from developer

Hello, Thanks for the feedback! I’ll definitely look into iPad support. In the meantime for iPad or a desktop computer I’d recommend using our website: https://souschef.recipes/app/www/index.html That’s currently the best way to enter recipes with a full sized keyboard. Cheers, Grant
