Bug fixes.

3.12

May 3, 2023

This app is no longer being developed. Please see http://www.microspell.com/recall-it/faqs.html for more info.

3.11.0

June 18, 2019

Photos attached to a note can now have a map overlay applied when viewed in the Recall-It image viewer. This can be useful to track your location on a map (image) that is more detailed than the standard Maps app. Bug fixes, in particular, a bug that caused a crash when using the camera to add a photo to a note.

3.10.2

May 14, 2019

Checkboxes within a note can now be toggled in Edit mode as well as when the note is being viewed. The image viewer now hides/shows the navigation bar when the image is tapped. The attributes view can now be toggled using the “info” (i) button to give additional space to the note view. Fixed a bug which caused redundant auto-backups to be created, and another bug which sometimes prevented text at the end of a note from being edited unless the device was rotated to reset the keyboard inset.

August 31, 2018

SIRI SUPPORT FOR SEARCH: You can now use Siri to find notes in Recall-It. Refer to the note “Search Tips for Power Users” for full details. ADS REMOVED: The app no longer contains ads. SHARE SHEET CAN NOW SET TAGS: When you create a new note from Safari or another app, you can now tag it with ore or more existing tags. BUG FIXES: And other minor improvements.

PDF ATTACHMENTS: Notes can now include PDF attachments enabling you to collect manuals, technical papers, infographics, etc. Any PDFs you drag-and-drop to an existing (or new) note will be copied to the Recall-It Attachments/ directory. Also, PDFs you are viewing in Safari can be copied by tapping “Copy to Recall-It” in the Action Sheet. PDF VIEWER: Tapping any PDF attachment launches a PDF viewer with thumbnails, navigation, and full text search capability. If you search for phrases or multiple terms, “best” matches are shown first. You can also export any PDF attachment using the Action Sheet in the PDF viewer. SEARCH RESULTS FILTERING: If you want to see only search results that contain (or do not contain) attachments, swipe left on an item in the list of results to reveal a command to hide items of that type (i.e. that contain/do not contain attachments). ADDITIONAL COLORS FOR SEARCH TERMS: Search terms are now highlighted in context using additional colors. This makes it easier to visually locate a particular term when the search includes more than one. ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR EXTERNAL (BLUETOOTH) KEYBOARDS: Hold down the Command key to see available keyboard shortcuts.

THUMBNAILS IN NOTE SUMMARIES: Notes containing at least one image attachment now display a thumbnail image in the note summary. ENHANCED ATTACHMENT CHECK: Settings > Advanced > Attachment Check not only finds orphan attachments, but now also lists missing attachments and deletes unused thumbnails and log files. BUG FIXES: Fixed two bugs related to new note creation. One bug sometimes caused a crash when the auto-inserted Clipboard text was deleted from a new note. The other bug caused some or all of the contents of a new note to be replaced by an image (attachment) taken using the camera.

IMAGE ATTACHMENTS: Images may now be embedded in notes. The Welcome note contains some basic information. More details can be found in the “How are attachments handled?” FAQ. BACK-UPS: When you back up your notes, the optional description is no longer saved in a new note. Instead it is written to the back-up container so your descriptions persist even if you delete your notes. TEXT FILE IMPORT: When importing text files to create new notes, you now have the option to automatically delete those files that are successfully imported. This lets you avoid the possibility of accidentally importing duplicates. DRAG-AND-DROP EMAIL LINKS: On iPad, you can drag emails from your Inbox to create a new note with a message link back to the email. MARKDOWN SYNTAX FOR HEADINGS: You can override the default method of rendering headings when viewing notes by adding at least one Markdown heading to any note. (For Recall-It, Markdown heading syntax consists of 1-6 #’s plus a space at the start of any heading, plus a blank line before and a blank line after. See the headings in this note.) You can disable this functionality via Settings > Advanced. IMPROVEMENTS and bug fixes.

Description of Recall

Recall-It Notes enables you to store thousands of snippets of information and quickly find what you need. For example, you can store recipes, gift lists, notes made while watching how-to videos or reading articles, keep annotated lists of web links, track major purchases, maintain checklists for activities like upgrading to a new phone, save frequently used keyboard shortcuts for your favorite apps, and much more. Recall-It is based on plain text, the most portable medium for your information. You can export your notes exactly as you entered or imported them so there is no lock-in as there can be with proprietary formats. Despite being plain text, your notes can include and display linked PDFs and images, e.g. photos or screenshots. Recall-It includes comprehensive back-up: by default, your entire database is backed up daily to your iCloud account, and you can manually archive everything, or any subset of your notes, any time. You can completely rebuild your database from any of the full back-ups. On iPad, drag and drop support lets you do things like create new notes by dragging text files from iCloud drive, drag images or selections from web pages, Apple Notes, email, iBooks, etc. and drop them to create new notes or append to existing ones. You can drag terms from the note you are looking at to the search field to find other possibly related notes. You can drag within the app to augment or copy notes, or drag a group of notes to iCloud drive to export them as text files. MAJOR FEATURES - Syncs via iCloud to all of your devices - Notes can be tagged to enable browsing or enhance search - You can apply multiple hierarchical tags to any note - Existing tags can be renamed or deleted for all associated notes - You can search based on AND, OR, NOT, and BEGINS-WITH - Searching for “word” automatically finds “words”, “worded”, “wording”, “wordy”, etc. (English only, and optional) - Search results are ordered showing best matches first - Search results can be filtered to include/not include notes with attachments - Search terms are highlighted within notes which auto-scroll to first occurrence - Repeat previous searches with a few taps - Launch the app and search via Siri command (Siri Shortcut support in iOS 12.) - One tap access to “favorite” or recently viewed notes - Easy formatting: bold headings, subheadings are automatically styled, or for greater flexibility, use Markdown heading syntax. - Handy in-note search function for continuing search within long notes - Auto-completion for easy entry of search terms/tags - Action Sheet support in Safari and other apps lets you save selections as new notes or append to any “favorite” note - Support for Slide Over, Split View, and 3D Touch on appropriate devices. - Automation via x-callback-url support; control Recall-It with the Workflow app - Easily insert images, checkboxes, bullets, current date and time into your notes. - Powerful batch editing for deleting, exporting, backing up, adding or removing tags from groups of notes - Comprehensive back-up and restore, including auto-backup (see above) - Extensive drag and drop support (see above) You may optionally choose to support development by purchasing a yearly, auto-renewing subscription ($4.99/year USD). Payment will be charged to your iTunes account, and renewals will be charged at the same price within 24 hours prior to the end of the current subscription if you have not turned off auto-renewal. You may turn off auto-renewal by going to your settings in the iTunes store, or directly from the app Settings pane where you purchased the subscription. • Great

Amazing! I was looking for a sort of ‘personal wikipedia’ which I found was called a personal database, and this is exactly what I was looking for! Keep up the great work, and I want to request adding text markup to the notes (bold, italic, underline, highlight, text color, etc.), and being able to resize images freely (drag the corners in edit mode or something). Thank you.

  • Gets the Job Done

I was looking for an app for research notes. I looked at Notion, which is well-implemented but too rich for my purposes. Recall-It was right on point for me straightforward but with robust search capabilities.
  • Lack right-to-left (RTL) support

RTL (right to left) writing is not supported well in the app and the text is not aligned properly after writing in Hebrew.

    Developer Response

Sorry to disappoint you, but the app is really optimized for English, my native language.
