Files-based Document Browser. The Brushes gallery in now based on the Files app, bringing a familiar document management interface and rich functionality. - Directly create and open paintings in iCloud Drive or your local device. - Search your paintings. - Sort your paintings. - Create folders. - Display the gallery as thumbnails or list view. - View by recents or browse. Where are my existing paintings? Your existing paintings are stored on your iPhone or iPad where they were created. You can find them by going to Locations and choosing 'On My iPhone/iPad' then tapping on the Brushes folder. If you would like to store these in iCloud Drive from now on; tap 'Select', tap 'Select All', then tap 'Move' and choose the new location, preferably in the Brushes folder in iCloud Drive. Choosing 'Move' only moves files when the source and destination are on the same device or cloud service. So this will actually copy your paintings, not move them. You may want to delete them from your device once you have confirmed they are all safe on iCloud Drive. Where are my new paintings? Your new paintings will be stored in iCloud Drive and automatically synced. You can find where by going to Locations and choosing 'iCloud Drive' then tapping on the Brushes folder. If you would like to continue to store your paintings locally on your device; open the Settings app, tap on Brushes in the list of apps on the left, tap on 'Document Storage' and choose 'On my iPhone/iPad'. Please note that only iCloud Drive supports package directories that Brushes uses for painting storage. Paintings cannot be created or edited on third-party storage providers such as Dropbox, Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive. Please use either iCloud Drive or local storage on your iPhone or iPad. If you have any problems or questions about this release, please email us from within Brushes or at brushes@envoza.com.

  • Let down by major auto save issues

This is a simple drawing app that lets you create high-quality artwork but there is a serious bug which causes significant problems sometimes. If you are choosing a new app, then I would strongly recommend not getting this despite the good features.

What happens is that sometimes auto save does not work so that when you exit the app you find that none of the changes have been applied. Several times are found that all the work of an extended working session had not been saved which can be imagined is incredibly frustrating. Since I’ve had to use the app for some work, I have been obliged to stop every few minutes to find out if it has saved which is not an ideal workflow.

  • A good place to start

I already have more robust (albeit pricier) apps and I am not sure why I thought they would have the same features plus something else unattainable, but there’s really no need for this one as it doesn’t offer anything they don’t already offer.

If you are just starting out, this is a really good price for what it does do- for example you can use layers and adjust the brushes to make your own brushes. I’m just spoiled. A very decent app for this price point, however.

  • Love it!

Even though I still miss the original Brushes app (from 2009!) and love Brushes Redux, this version of Brushes is fantastic. I’m still working out setting up different brushes, but so far-it’s just so fast, intuitive and fun to use. Unlike some other painting app’s, Brushes 4 is not convoluted and painstaking to use. If you’re like me and just want to get working, and not fiddle around with endless boring steps to get there, then this app is for you. As an ex-graphic designer and current practising fine artist, I can honestly say, there is no other app out there that will give you that beautiful, unique and special ‘Brushes look’ that this app does do well. It truly is in a league of its own. *The only thing that needs fixing is the brush-size slider. It keeps jumping by default to a larger size setting-before you start to draw?’ Very frustrating! However, for less than a coffee to buy-it’s a steal in this day and age! No stupid subscription either. Welcome back Brushes. I’m sure David Hockney will be happy too.
