Price History of Reigns

Description of Reigns

Reigns: Her Majesty is the revolutionary follow-up to the smash swipe ‘em up hit Reigns. A cultural renaissance has bestowed the world with a new era of knowledge and enlightenment but greed and jealousy still conspire against the benevolent queen. Outwit and outlast those that would seek to depose you and your husband by swiping left or right, making just (or unjust) decisions on all manner of royal matters. Maintain the balance between the kingdom’s most powerful factions, use mystical items from your inventory, and navigate the increasingly complex politics and personal relationships of your dynasty. New Kingdom, New Drama: Your royal decrees and unpredictable requests of the people will shape both your time on the throne and the future of your dynasty. Carefully navigate the foolish politics and emotional pleas of the kingdom’s eccentric subjects to find balance between the most powerful factions of the land. Mystical Inventory: Find and upgrade five special items in a new inventory system. Use your powerful items on character cards and unlock special paths in the ever more complex narrative of your kingdom. Royal Challenges: Reach specific goals set before each new monarch’s reign to unlock new sets of cards and new directions to take the story of your dynasty. Nerial and Friends: Reigns: Her Majesty is a collaboration between François Alliot (design/programming), Arnaud de Bock (art), Jim Guthrie (music), and Leigh Alexander (narrative director). ** Warning: this game contains flickering images on rare occasions **

Reviews of Reigns

  • Much worse than the original

As someone who has played the original game many times over, this sequel is a complete dumpster fire. The consequences of your actions are mostly unpredictable and are frequently uniformly beneficial or harmful, whereas in the original, decisions are almost always tradeoffs between the different factions. Additionally, the writing is often amateurish in both the prompts and the queen’s responses, which resemble those of a stereotyped teenage girl rather than royalty. When I looked it up, it turns out that Reigns: Her Majesty was actually written by Leigh Alexander, a notorious radical feminist with no previous experience working on video games. Beyond the quality of the writing, this also shows up in the bias of the decisions. Whereas the church was just one of four factions in the original game, with both positive and negative aspects, here they are uniformly portrayed in a negative light and oppose decisions supported by all the other factions, including decisions they should by all reason support.
  • One of my favorite games

I love reigns! I always have, and I liked to spend time playing on the original, so I was ecstatic when I learned there was a Queen version! Needless to say, this game met expectation. It’s pretty accurate when it comes to politics on the side of the queen, having to settle agreements and earn favor instead of bargaining and starting wars, like in the 1st game. As soon as I learned of the all mother, I immediately became obsessed! Great job!
  • Cheeky and Lovable

A lot of wit and charm for a swipe and tap card game! The lore and strategy to this game are both very accessible and wonderfully deep, while every run builds on the next, punishments are very forgiving, and you have plenty of time to figure out how you'd like to play it. Got a lot of queer subtext, so you're in luck if you're into that :)
