Excellent idea and was excited to use it but I was quickly let down
  • Solid concept

We are missing a BUNCH of Black owned businesses for New Orleans it would be great to have an input center to get these businesses the traffic they deserve.
  • Girlfriends Rock Essence Fest

The Connect2Black app was a very good thing to use for Essence Fest. We had a ball, we were able to use the app to find black restaurants, night clubs, black nail salons and black businesses throughout the city. So it was a great tool to use. Thank You Connect2Black. We will be using you all the time, everywhere we go.
  • Needs work

I support Black owned businesses and I am always on the lookout for directories or other central locations where I can find this information, and so for that I appreciate this app. HOWEVER, IT NEEDS WORK! The interface is terrible and doesn’t look good across devices. It looks like 1) a student who wasn’t paying attention designed it and 2) didn’t care enough about their work to make it look right. The black background is also too stark and it’s not pleasing to look at or navigate. The contact and information icons cover the listing information and makes the app look crowded and confusing. Now the vendors. It’s not enough to get people to list their businesses in an app. There also needs to be coordination of the vendors and establishing a set of expectations for vendors to participate in this directory like: 1) Putting in correct business hours AND committing to being responsive during those hours, 2) Providing a complete and accurate list of services offered (and not offered) so potential customers don’t have to play guess on the phone and 3) Listing the correct business numbers and if listing more than one indicating what kind of number it is- personal cell? Fax? Answering service? It also wouldn’t hurt to court vendors that treat their business like a business instead of a side hustle or hobby and are professional on the phone. The last part may be out of the purview of the app builders but they should pay attention to the user experience and do better about creating an app that makes it easy and pleasant to support Black owned businesses.

    Developer Response

Thank you for your comments. Setting aside the look and feel, for a FREE app, (both download and listings) out of the gate, whose primary purpose is to provide vast information on Commerce, Culture within Black Communities is a Great start. Grant you, all the bells and whistles aren’t 100% in tact, however, by you supporting just one of the qualified businesses listed, would certainly be a tremendous help to the community at large, enabling sustainable growth. That’s what I want to first thank you for. We will prayerfully and diligently work to fix the rest. Thank you for your patience.
