An essential mood enhancing app

On cloudy days it is nice to know where the sun is, just in case there is a break and it can shine through. This app is really accurate and helpful when you are out and about, especially at sunrise and sunset.

It WAS good.

I have been utilizing this app for some time to efficiently determine my chickens’ bedtime. It has been a prominent feature on my main screen for months, even replacing my weather widget due to its convenience.

I understand the necessity for developers to monetize their work, I am not even troubled by ads or the decision to make the weather a paid feature. However, the recent addition of a prominent “Enable Weather” button on my widget, which cannot be removed without purchasing premium, is concerning. Had I been informed of this change, I might have considered upgrading, as I appreciate the app’s functionality. Since I rarely open the app and have not encountered ads on the widget, I have never felt compelled to buy premium.

It is frustrating that I cannot simply disable the weather feature to avoid this large button, which is poorly formatted on the widget. Consequently, I will not be purchasing premium at this time.

Thanks for your feedback. Which widget are you using? For the medium size solar events widget there is a variant without the weather feature. At any rate, I am going to add a setting to completely turn off weather functionality on widgets with the next update.

Developer keeps getting rid of features from the free tier!!!!

Thanks for your feedback. I totally understand your frustration. It was not an easy decision for me. Unfortunately the weather data is very expensive and keeps getting more expensive. It reached a point where it was not sustainable anymore. Thanks for your understanding.

Crashes on opening

Crashes and won’t even let me proceed past the Get Started page. I’ve reinstalled the application twice.

The occasional crashes at launch have been fixed with update v2024.33. Apologies for the inconvenience.

Great app and responsive programmers!

In had an issue with the app. So I wrote to report a bug and ended up getting a personal response from the founder. And the issue was fixed very soon after. Very impressed.

Also, this is my favorite app for checking sunset, sunrise and twilight times. The app is very helpful if you care about such things.

Slick presentation and helpful features

This is a great example of an app designed to give you all the information you want up-front in a visually pleasant way, and on top of that, the dev is open and responsive to feedback. I use this extensively for planning hikes around sunset, love it.

Scroll forward in time

You used to be able to scroll the wheel to see the future sunset times, but after an update by yourself or now with ios18, this is not possible. Can you please fix this? Otherwise a great app.

Thanks for your feedback. Starting version v2024.28, the wheel rotation is disabled by default but can be enabled in settings under Main Screen. I have been doing some in-person user testing and I have observed too many new users activating the rotation unintentionally and getting totally confused. I hope this change will help new users getting used to SolarWatch.

Great app. I was looking for a app to show me day light times. This really does the job. Very impressed by it

Don’t download this people

Read this developer’s comments on other people’s negative reviews. You initially won’t face too many ads but if you use the app for a while eventually he starts to show you more ads as way to kind of irritate you into making one of the subscription payments. This suggests that how often you use this app is being tracked and recorded somehow and used in a way to manipulate you, which is not necessary. I’d expect a big corporate type business like Chase bank to do something shady like this but for a small independent developer to be this greedy is a shame !

Latest update seems to have broken it

When it worked, it was a great app, but unfortunately the latest update has rendered it unusable for the time being. It no longer remembers the city. Trying to search is very difficult because as soon as I enter the first letter, the keyboard goes away and only one search result comes up (which isn’t the one I want to search for). I have to tap back into the search bar a second time in order to be able to search for my city, but when I select my city from the search results, nothing happens. The city doesn’t load. Unfortunately, this issue renders the app unusable for the time being.
