Nice for reading, but missing features
I don’t see an obvious way to save articles, and sharing is only available through a link at the end of the article (but before related articles, making it a bit difficult to find). The typical scroll indicator appears to be missing, too. No way to change font size, either.

Great content, poor app
The stories are great, but a few things in the app really irk me, and make it a weaker experience than reading The Spinoff website.
Photos are often blurry, looking awful on retina iPads; there is no support for reading in landscape orientation; and the iOS feature of tapping the status bar to scroll to the top is disabled by this app (in fact, the title bar is hidden altogether so you can’t see the time or battery/Wi-Fi status while using this app).
If you want to support The Spinoff, just browse the website without adblockers instead. It’ll save you $6 and much regret.Show lessalienarcade
Great content, app needs work.
I enjoy the content of The Spinoff however find the app a real struggle to use on the iPad. Reading in portrait is a pain in the neck (literally). Secondly cropping of the photos blocks out up to 50% of them wrecking the experience.
If you intend to use the app on your iPhone, go right ahead. On an iPad it's probably worth waiting for the functionality to improve before spending the dollars.Show lessMatt McEvedy
Great journalism, basic app
Love the Spinoff content and happy to pay to support it. Would be keen for a bookmarking feature within the app as stuff gets buried in the feed if you miss checking it for a day or otherwise can't read it at the time.Kdnwidongtajdp
Good news, reasonable app.
I think if you value good journalism in New Zealand in the vacancy left behind by the descent of The Herald and Stuff into click bait, "reddit journalism", "someone got insulted", etc please support this app. Usually my favourite reads of the week come from the spinoff now.
As for the app, I give it 4 stars not 5 as it would be great to improve a couple of things:
- can we have the swiping left/right between articles and instant loading that you get when you read the spinoff on the facebook app? It feels much nicer but we support your goals to free yourself of facebook.
- on iPad I'd love a landscape view. Everything else on the iPad I do in landscape pretty much.Show lessDanger Gadget
