Insultingly bad app
I can’t believe such an incredible and high quality board game could have such a joke of a mobile app. The “AI” (which is clearly not real AI that learns or has logic, but just a very basic computer algorithm) plays like someone who has never seen a Catan board before, submits endless trades so each of their turns take minutes, and frequently glitches out. With every “update” and “bug fix” the AI is just as bad, if not worse, to play against. If you want to play with real people, the matchmaking is also poor. The overall UI is embarrassing and not a good example of something produced by a huge company. Frequent crashes and being logged out for no reason top it all off. I can’t believe they charged money for this. It makes Catan look bad

Computer AI freezes
I used to enjoy playing this with my son however the number of times a game has frozen when an AI (computer) player is trying to trade has made this unplayable. The dance of having to log off, enter a tutorial, exit and then re log on in order to quit the old multiplayer frozen game that it’s pointlessly/endlessly trying so desperately to re find, makes the fix just to try another game in the hope it won’t freeze unbearable.

I’m SO Disappointed and the game is NOT Cheap!
My husband and I love Catan. We have been playing the board game for years. We used to play virtually against each other, and have a “Coffee and Cat” time together. After purchasing a bunch of “Gold” and many of the expansions, the app just simply does not work. We have had emails back and forth with customer service, and they now just are not responding at all. It’s incredibly frustrating to log on with the hope it is working, (even completely deleting, redownloading, restarting our phones, etc) go through the process of setting it all up, and then the game glitches and crashes. It’s INCREDIBLY frustrating and, at this point, unplayable. We have tried for months and months- (actually, almost a year) to get it to work. We’ve done research about what we can possibly do to make it work. We get our hopes up and are disappointed time and time again. I am also incredibly disappointed in the integrity (or lack thereof) of the developers. They allow us to purchase upgrades and expansions, and the game simply does not work- and at this point, they know it. They will not respond if you ask for a refund, and just seem to develop a faulty app. I’m left disappointed, letdown, and without anything to show for the time and money invested.

Too much stealing
The game play is great but when playing against AI the amount they steal my goods is completely unrealistic compared to playing IRL

I bought this app and then bought the premium version “gold” which you need to to be able to play the full game which is not cheap like $23 and it deleted my account and basically said that I needed to rebuy so to buy for a second time I spent at $23 just to play the game which is almost as much as the physical board game and I emailed CATAN customer Support weeks ago and I’ve emailed several times to follow up and they haven’t responded. There are hundreds of post similar to this all across the Internet talking about this app which is a scam do not buy it’ll be a complete waste of money. I don’t know how apple allows this to stay up when it’s clearly a SCAMMMMM.

Freezing issues
What’s annoying is having to delete the app, and reload it because it keeps freezing. It’s awesome when it is working but the glitches are too frequent especially once you’ve spent money to purchase the games and then they don’t work.
PLEASE FIX THE GAME URGENTLY
First of all this game is amazing and is a great representation of playing the physical board game. The major downside, is that recently maybe within the last month or two, the game is almost unplayable!!!! Now whether playing multiplayer or single player, often the game will hang and force you to close the app and re open it, but only to find that when the game reopens, it has a message at the top of the screen stating ‘find running game’ and no matter what happens you cannot get back into a game and are forced to delete the app, re download and start again. The process is unbelievably frustrating and having spent all the money for the expansions… you don’t want to have to deal with this on an app that’s cost you nearly ten pound.
Worst of all having had to delete the game I’ve lost all my purchases for the expansions… so even though I’ve paid and should have it all, I now have nothing with no way to restore purchases because of the coin purchases format for the expansions. Utterly disappointed.

Purchased Gold not showing up
I love Catan and I love the app, but I’ve genuinely hit a wall here. I paid $27 for 3,000 Gold, (the in-game currency) and my Gold balance never changed. My intention since downloading the app in the first place was to get every game extension to play every scenario with no restrictions at any time. But after paying top dollar, I am still restricted to playing a lousy 1 game per 12 hours, and the only multi-player option available to me is the repetitive base game with no chat function. I reached out to the customer service email provided by the Catan Universe website. It’s been a whole week, and other than automated response emails, I haven’t heard back at all. My Gold balance remains at 0, and I cannot get the features I want from this app. At this point my review SHOULD be 1 star, plus a report for blatant theft. But I’ve enjoyed Catan Universe so far, and what it has provided me despite this. The Free-to-Play aspects are still perfectly fair. I have faith in the people, and assume that my email must have fallen through the cracks during the holidays/weekends. I’ve submitted another email for customer service. Please, CU Team, find a way to program that gold into my account, or allow me access to the extentions etc. I don’t WANT to be refunded, I just want to buy your game. Please don’t be a scam! 🤞🤞

Glitches make this game unenjoyable
My friend and I love playing this game however the glitches have made it unplayable. Every second game it will glitch out. Bots either continue to spam the same trade with their turn timer resetting each time or the game seems to rubberband, allowing you to make a turn but then kicking you out of the game to come back to where you were before your game.
Competitive play is compromised due to the glitching. I try to put up with the glitching until it resolves itself however it never does and I have to end up leaving, reducing my Elo.

Constant Disconnects Ruin Gameplay
I was excited to play Catan Universe on my Apple device, but the experience has been nothing short of frustrating. The game constantly disconnects, interrupting gameplay and causing immense frustration. It's incredibly disappointing to invest time and effort into a game only to be abruptly cut off due to technical issues. Until the connectivity problems are resolved, I cannot recommend Catan Universe to anyone looking for a reliable gaming experience.
