  • Reporting System?

The website is a good way for employers to reach out to students. There are a few issues with a lot of the employers on the app, like they often list the opportunity as paid to get more students to see the post even if they do not plan to pay. This could be easier to avoid if the app allowed you a way to report employers like this. On the mobile app I don’t think they give you an option to report and on the website it doesn’t let you submit the report. The website doesn’t allow you to send links to the employer as well, which is annoying because many of them are asking for online portfolio links and not files.

  • Complete Trash!!!

Why am I getting jobs outside of my filtered preferences? Why are so many of these job posting fake, expired, or you consistently have to go to third party websites to go through the arduous process of filling out all the information that you’ve taken all the time to fill out on Handshake?! What was the purpose of filling out all that information on Handshake if you have to go to third-party websites just to do it all over again this is so stupid! I think this is a great app for undergraduates or graduate students straight out with little to no professional experience but anyone looking with years of professional experience and multiple degrees…this is not for us. There’s a $35 charge for alumni to utilize Handshake…please don’t waste your money! If I could give 0 stars, I would! Will you please upgrade your application to stop allowing fake jobs, expired jobs, and scammers to post ridiculous videos. I thought this was a serious business networking job site application?!

We appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback on your experience with Handshake. We’re committed to constantly improving the product and will share your feedback with our team. It’s important to note that Handshake never charges a fee to students. Universities may charge alumni fees in order to continue to access their career services resources.
  • Limited Accessibility for City University of Seattle Students

I recently attempted to use Handshake to explore job opportunities, a platform known for its utility in connecting students with potential employers. Unfortunately, I encountered a significant hurdle: my institution, City University of Seattle, is not recognized or listed within the app. This exclusion is a substantial drawback, as it restricts access to the resources and opportunities that Handshake provides, which are valuable for students' career growth. While the concept of Handshake is promising, the lack of inclusivity for all universities diminishes its potential benefits. Therefore, I am rating it 1 out of 5 stars, primarily due to this limitation. I hope to see improvements in the future that will include a wider range of institutions, ensuring all students can benefit equally from what Handshake has to offer.

  • This app was great at first!

Handshake is easy to use, I like that you can message employers and take to recruiters directly. I got my first internship through handshake and I am extremely grateful. Recently the app has gone down hill. It’s becoming more and more like indeed and LinkedIn. If I search for a role I get jobs that are completely unrelated to the job search or I’m not qualified for. I was under the impression that this app was best suited for students/college graduates looking for entry level roles but many of the roles I’ve seen require 5+ years of experience. I’m not sure if Handshake is trying to appeal to a new market but it’s making it a lot harder to use and enjoy this app. Handshake don’t let us down!

Update: I stil LOVE the fact that they never have scam jobs. I can use the app and look for opportunities (although many of them don’t match what I’m looking for) without worrying about if it’s a scam :)

  • Handshake is great except

I’m coming in here to report a problem where when I’m trying to look at the employers that will be present at my school it won’t let me scroll for the whole list. It will jump me to the button where I registered for the event. This is so annoying because I’m simply just trying to look at the employer so I can plan my visits and meanwhile voiceover and I’m taking me to the registration button. I use Handshake on an iPhone 13 with voiceover and would really appreciate if you could fix this. Thank you.

  • Garbage

I want to block certain companies. There are a lot of scammers/pyramid schemes posting on here. And way too many military recruiters too.

Also if I have specific job titles in my profile, don’t let recruiters send me stuff unrelated.

Let me filter and save searches. If I’m only interested in remote roles, let me say that. Don’t let recruiters contact me for anything outside my parameters. I am sick of being contacted for $15/hr jobs 3000 miles away and they refuse to allow remote work.

Recruiters rarely respond to messages and it’s never helpful. Not even when they initiate contact with me first.

There are way too many jobs that let you apply within the app and then send you a message making you doing their external process. Why bother?

I’ve changed all the settings I can think of, and I still get garbage notifications that are entirely irrelevant. I even unchecked the job notification option and I’m still getting job notifications. For totally irrelevant jobs.

Mostly I feel like it’s an excuse to have fewer people in school career services departments so they can push us to this app, which does nothing.

The career fairs can be cool (although anything with 1:1’s books up in seconds, which is crap), but I have yet to get a job through any of these fairs so I’m not sure it’s worth my time.

  • Pulling teeth to delete my account

I normally never leave reviews, but this whole experience was a nightmare. It started about 2 months ago when my uni created an account with my uni email. It prompted me to set up notification alerts. I set it to the least amount of notifications I could get. I still got emails almost daily. I tried to delete my account via the link provided in the preference emails to no avail. This week I have gotten emails back to back to back to the point where I was about to contact customer support to figure out why I was still getting them. FAQ’s said you could do it online, false, or via the link provided, false. To delete your account you must download the app and then a link is sent to the support team to approve the account that I never created.
If this company allows 3rd parties to register their information then they need to provided a simple and painless way to delete student accounts. Do not use this app. Don’t even look at it or you’ll get an envite to an event 18 hours that had nothing to do with you.

  • App Improvement Suggestion

I love the app, it helped me find an internship last summer and I’m currently using it to help find a job post graduation.

    Suggestion:
There definitely needs to be a filter for hybrid work and remote jobs within your city/state.

Entry level jobs should be 0-6months experience without internships. Entry level means no experience and when employees post jobs requesting 1+ years of experience then it harder to find jobs that actually are entry level (after all this is an app for recent graduates/students were not gonna have lots of experience).

There should be a feature that shows you how well you match up with other candidates (similar to LinkedIn premium)

Lastly, jobs that aren’t actively hiring should not be advertised. It shows that a company really isn’t looking to recruit if the posting has been up for more than 2-3 months.
