Additional functionality

Can you please make it possible to see your average split time down to the millisecond. It seems weird that it gives each split down to the millisecond and also your total row time down to the millisecond but not your average split.

Nice app but doesn’t write distance data to HealthKit

Distance data is all available in the SmartRow app itself, but HealthKit only stores duration and heart rate related info. Not sure why this limitation is there, and I’d assume it’s an easy fix. Will give 5* if this is fixed in a future update.

Hi, this is a limitation in the rowing profile used in the Apple software. When Apple allows us to write more data into Health, we will. Enjoy your workouts!

SmartRow and Kinomap

If any of you are planning to use SmartRow with the latest version of Kinomap it’s not really working.

Every time you want to row you have to delete SmartRow equipment in Kinomap and add it back again - tedious to do. Connection is not always possible and you have to reboot iPhone to get it working.

Worse still with the latest version ok Kinomap I get a message saying ‘Main Data not Received’ when trying to connect.

Developers have said for many months they would sort this but nothing happens.

The app itself works OK but I can’t recommend it if you want to use it with a third party rowing app.

Enjoy it but seems to lag with EXR

I’ve been using the app for a while and do think it is good but could do with some improvements.

I’d like the option of a pace boat that actually shows two boats in a graphic rather than the circles.

I also notice a lag between SR and EXR and am not sure which side issue is on if I’m honest! I’d love the two to be in sync but EXR suggests about 8-9 seconds difference per 500m!

Excellent

Great device and app for Waterrower! Specifically went for the performance erg version due to SmartRow which offers excellent data and features. Great to see ongoing improvements and innovations. Very happy so far. Could you please also make it compatible with Asensei!

Good, but constantly buggy

Each new version is like a step forward and a step back. This time, the Apple Watch app cannot be “quitted”. It stays the active/dominant face of your watch even after you’re done working out.

Hi Dan, I expect this issue has been solved with the latest updates. If not, please contact us at info@smartrow.fit and our support team will help you.

Software cuts corners and dissapoints

Software sometimes needs a hard reboot. Heart-rate tracking is implemented very lazily. When a signal is lost during training, which is always possible, the software will not attempt to retry. This makes for blind training sessions unfortunately. And I’m using a top of the line bluetooth sensor.

No attention was put into the UX at all, it is just a list of lazy tables and graphs with no obvious information hierarchy.

Stable but poor HR integration

If I use Apple Watch or a polar chest strap, heart rate measurement is VERY flaky. It’s been the Sam for years. No improvements. Today, during a 5 minute row, my HR was measured at a flat 62bpm. It’s very poor for such an expensive system. I have stopped using it and just use my Apple Watch indoor rowing function. Very disappointed because my WaterRower is fantastic. They need to find a new technology partner.

Hi Cactoose, due to some changes by Strava we have had some bugs in the first Strava connection release. The Strava connection works seamlessly at the moment. Do you use it a lot? Feel free to change your review and contact us at info@smartrow.fit for more feedback.

Disappointing app

I got the SmartRow this past Christmas and have been using it for a bit now. Overall I’m a bit disappointed in the app it’s lacking a bunch features that I feel Should just be there at this point. I see a few from a few years ago where people thought some more functionality would be coming but I think they are probably still waiting.

- Calorie count seems way off compared to every other piece of exercise equipment and heart rate monitoring app I have ever used.

- No way to adjust heart rate zones. How they determine them I have no idea

- No way to pause a work out if you wanted to Distance does not It appear to be exported to Apple health if you do a just row.

- Very little adjustments to the top display of you wanted to tweak anything.

- At the end of a just row I have to “quit” and then make sure to save. I would prefer to be “done” or pause my work out and have it save it automatically. Then my workout data isn’t accidentally lost if I get distracted or click the wrong thing.

At this point I feel let down and feel like the pulley coupled with the app isn’t really worth the price. I’m just about at the point where I’m going back to my old heart rate tracking app and just using the S4 monitor.

Sparking upgrade

This software coupled with the SmartRow pulley modernizes the WaterRower is a no brainer to bypass the original Series 4 Performance Monitor. This modern approach on phone directly measures force dynamically, graphs it and calculates multiple indices of performance, work and totals. The software talks to multiple 3rd party programs if want. As a lone rower and a fan of numbers, Smart adds entertainment and utility. Love it. Wish I had discovered it sooner. Also the mechanical conversion- swapping the original dumb pulley for the smart one is easy if you use the Hansen video (15 minutes) - better than written instructions.
